Lead DevOps Engineer

Working Hours: 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week. Weekend and On-Call working may be required.

Location: Remote Working, with regular travel to NEC SWS Offices

Working in the Government and Housing area of NEC Software Solutions the Lead DevOps Engineer will be responsible for leading a small but growing DevOps team that deploys and manages NECSWS cloud-based SaaS offerings deployed in public and private clouds.

The team works with a wide range of technologies so the successful candidate will need to be able to rapidly understand new technology, including trouble shooting. They will also need to help in the selection of technologies in new projects.

Main Responsibilities:
•    Deploy and provide operational support to the existing and new SaaS offerings.
•    Support the design, development, testing and continuous improvement of DevOps Solutions
•    Collaborate with the team, other NEC SWS business units and stakeholders to deliver DevOps projects considering cost, timeline, priority and committed deliverables.
•    Design and deliver DevOps projects that ensure applications are cost effective and secure while meeting operational targets (including 24x7).
•    Ensure that all solutions are well documented including deployment, trouble shooting and disaster recovery plans.
•    Ensure business continuity and disaster recovery plans are tested and updated on an annual basis.
•    Propose innovative solutions to enhance DevOps processes (CI/CD, etc)
•    Provide support to development teams and conduct training sessions where appropriate.
•    Recruit, train, and mentor DevOps engineers to meet growing requirements for the future.
•    Participate in architecture, requirements, and planning sessions with project owners and stakeholders.
•    Proactive planning and organization to adjust to the needs of the business.
•    Maintain communications with a geo-diverse IT staff via stand-ups, bi-annual reviews, and frequent one-on-one meetings.
•    Serve as an escalation point to help prioritize and resolve complex or urgent issues and incidents.

Essential Technical Skills:
•    Ability to problem solve in a complex technical landscape.
•    Terraform
•    Containerisation technologies (Docker and Podman)
•    Jenkins Pipelines
•    GIT
•    OCI or Azure

Desirable Technical Skills:
•    Apache HTTPD
•    REDIS
•    PostgreSQL
•    MySQL
