Lead Data Scientist, Model Validation

About the role

Our Enterprise Risk Management team is looking for a subject matter authority within the model risk and validation space. The role requires a sharp analytical problem solver who's adept at credit and fraud model risk management. You will provide model risk management and validation expertise related to financial crime, fraud, and credit models. You will coordinate model risk management of various models used to manage credit and fraud risk at Chime and work with our bank partners and internal teams to develop our modeling controls. There will be a particular focus on the validation and monitoring of model performance of models critical to the delivery of our products.

Our Lead Data Analyst, Model Validation will be a self-starter, change agent, and outstanding problem solver with a proven track record of driving model governance and validation activities for large FinTechs or financial institutions.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $149,300.00 and up to $207,300.00. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to 

  • Provide input on governance standards for all models in use at Chime, leading to more optimal use of models, and increased confidence in model outcomes.
  • Interact with bank and regulatory partners in all areas related to model validation and monitoring of model performance.
  • Provide clear and insightful analysis, feedback and critique of models by way of written and/or oral reports to business units and senior management.
  • Lead independent validations of models in use at Chime in line with OCC 2011-12
  • Maintain effective relationships and act as liaison with model developers, owners, governance partners, banks, and external auditors
  • Continually improve and enhance controls over credit, FinCrime, and fraud models to promote alignment with industry standard processes.

To thrive in this role, you have 

  • A quantitative degree in a field like Statistics, Economics, or Mathematics - advanced degrees preferred
  • 5+ years in program/project management and oversight role
  • 6+ years experience in quantitative modeling of credit risk; fraud risk; and/or model risk management in a financial institution
  • Experience creating, adjusting, validating, testing, monitoring and documenting quantitative models
  • Deep understanding of regulatory expectations as they relate to OCC 2011-12, FRB SR 11-7, FRB SR 15-18, model risk management standards and best practices.
  • Experience working directly with regulators and preparing material designed to report to the Board and regulators.
  • Ability to condense highly technical subject matter into clear, effective presentation-quality communications to senior management
  • Resilient mindset, strong sense of ownership and an ability to work autonomously in the face of ambiguity
