As a Lead Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic
medical lab tests as requested by healthcare staff according to established protocols and procedures. Prepare specimens for testing procedures. Operates automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment to perform lab testing, result review, and result reporting in the Laboratory Information System. Follow all required privacy, safety, and biohazard procedures and standards, and works independently within established procedures associated with the CLS job function.
This exciting opportunity will oversee and ensuring the quality and compliance of laboratory operations. In addition, this role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining quality management systems, conducting audits, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards. This role works closely with laboratory staff to promote a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in patient care. The Lead CLS will also overseeing operations in the Laboratory Manager's absence.

In this role, you'll get to:
- Support health center/affiliate efforts to achieve established goals for productivity, quality metrics, and revenue cycle goals.
- Perform diagnostic laboratory testing including but not limited to testing for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomonas, and Herpes Simplex 1/2.
- Perform routine equipment function checks, equipment maintenance, and quality assurance record keeping and such other quality assurance activities.
- Ensure use of the universal precautions and follow safety guidelines when handling hazardous materials.
- Participate in continuing educational programs as required by accrediting agencies and Agency policy.
- Act as Lead in absence of the Laboratory Manager ensuring smooth function of the Lab.
- Monitor inventory supply levels and collaborate with the Lab Manager and Lab coordinators regarding ordering.
What we're looking for:
- Minimum Education: Training in an approved school or program of medical technology required
- Licenses: Must have a current license under the California Clinical Laboratory Scientist category or related sub-specialty required
- Minimum Experience: 2+ years Two years' experience bench testing in a clinical laboratory required and 1+ years One year experience working with a laboratory information system (LIS)
- Other Required Qualifications:
- Must have excellent technical/assay skills required
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals required
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from staff, clients and regulatory agencies required
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality required
- Ability to work flexible hours based on Agency need required
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fraction and decimals required
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs required
- Computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team required
- Ability to follow all safety and OSHA guidelines including wearing personal protective equipment and observing clean areas required
- Must have excellent customer service skills and be committed to providing the highest level of customer satisfaction required
- Commitment to goals and philosophy of Planned Parenthood required
- Ability to adhere to regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, CLIA & CAP regulations required
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years experience working with a laboratory information system (LIS) and electronic health records (EHR)preferred.
- Experience using the Hologic Panther system preferred.
