FEFA LLC is seeking a Research Laboratory Technician II to support infectious disease research at the NHRC’s OID Directorate. This position is responsible for performing in laboratory testing, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory protocols. The OID Directorate conducts laboratory-based surveillance of US military personnel to identify infectious diseases in unique environments, providing valuable data to guide public health and military readiness.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform bio surveillance testing for bacterial identification and antimicrobial resistance, utilizing traditional microbiology culturing techniques.
  • Support ongoing efforts to maintain CAP accreditation by acting as testing personnel.
  • Support research and development projects focused on operational infectious diseases in collaboration with federal agencies, local governments, and research institutions.
  • Record experimental results and observations accurately in laboratory notebooks and electronic systems.
  • Assist in analyzing data and preparing summary reports for senior scientists and research investigators.
  • Maintain data in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.
  • Follow safety and regulatory protocols, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Ensure adherence to Institutional Review Board (IRB).
  • Participate in safety inspections and maintain required certifications such as biosafety and chemical safety.
  • Assist in developing, reviewing, and revising laboratory protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Validate and verify new laboratory assays and equipment.
  • Perform equipment maintenance and monitor inventory of laboratory supplies.
  • Train laboratory personnel on procedures, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Monitor quality assurance measures in the assigned laboratory section.
  • Contribute to team efforts by performing related duties as needed.

Requirements

  

Required:

  • ASCP certified (MLS or Microbiology).
  • BA/BS in a science-related field (e.g., biology, microbiology, chemistry, public health).
  • 3-5 years of laboratory experience, preferably in a research setting.
  • Experience with microbiology techniques
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety standards and GLP.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.
  • Must be available to work onsite Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with flexibility to adjust hours as needed.

Preferred:

  • Experience in infectious disease research or a military research environment.
  • Experience in a diverse laboratory environment and adaptability to shifting priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with modern molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, DNA extraction, cloning, tissue culture).
