The Infrastructure Consultant will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our complex physical and cloud-based infrastructure to ensure it operates efficiently, securely, and reliably. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in infrastructure, networking, and cloud technologies with a strong attention to detail. This individual will work with business leaders, managed services personnel and customers to create scalable and secure technology solutions across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
- The infrastructure expert is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of an organization's data centre infrastructure.
- This includes designing, implementing, and maintaining data centre facilities, servers, storage systems, network equipment, VMware, and related technologies.
- The role requires a deep understanding of data centre operations, infrastructure architecture, and emerging technologies.
- The expert will collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure the data centre meets performance, reliability, and security requirements.
- Collaborate with team and stakeholders to design and plan data centre facilities ensuring scalability, efficiency, and reliability.
- Evaluate and recommend suitable technologies and solutions for infrastructure.
- Infrastructure Implementation: Oversee the installation and configuration of servers, storage systems, network devices, and other data centre equipment.
- Ensure proper cabling, cooling, and power distribution within the infrastructure.
- Maintenance and Monitoring: Develop and implement maintenance procedures to ensure the continuous operation of data centre equipment.
- Monitor server performance, network traffic, and storage utilization to identify and resolve issues promptly.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to data centre operations.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and backup strategies to minimize downtime in case of failures or disasters.
- Conduct regular tests of disaster recovery processes to validate their effectiveness.
- Collaborate with vendors to procure hardware, software, and services for the infrastructure.
- Negotiate contracts and service level agreements to ensure cost effectiveness and quality of services.
- Monitor resource usage trends and plan for future capacity requirements.
- Recommend upgrades and expansions to accommodate growing business needs.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation related to infrastructure configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for data centre operations.
- Collaborate with IT teams, including network engineers, system administrators, VDI engineer and security experts, to ensure seamless integration of data centre services.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior staff members.
Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (master’s degree preferred)
- 10+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing complete infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of server hardware, storage systems, networking protocols, and virtualization technologies
- Certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Server+, or equivalent are a plus.
- Knowledge on VDI Infrastructure solutions to the likes of Citrix / VMware / Microsoft
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
