Texas Health Action is seeking a Lab Coordinator/OSHA Safety Officer at our Central Austin Kind Clinic to coordinate and oversee laboratory operations, including all necessary reporting, processing of lab specimens, and performing phlebotomy as needed. This role will report to the Clinic Administrator.

What you would do:

Communicate with the Clinic Administrator to ensure that lab technician positions are adequately staffed for clinic operation

Demonstrate working knowledge of all lab processes: phlebotomy and lab specimen processing, urine reagent analysis, preparing, labeling, and submitting swab/urine samples to external labs

Perform lab coordinator and/or phlebotomy services during clinic hours of operation

Provide account management for reference labs (point of contact for discrepancies, lab errors, add-ons, orders, invoicing, etc)

Be responsible for observation, training, and supervision of laboratory technicians

Identify staff needs and assists in facilitation of trainings as needed

Work with Clinic Administrator to implement and maintain organization’s policies and procedures that reduce the quantity of “insufficient” and “unsatisfactory” lab specimens received by external labs

Utilize and promote infection control measures and universal precautions to maintain high quality of health and safety during clinic operation

Be responsible for ordering, tracking, invoicing, and maintaining adequate medical supply inventories

Ensure well-being of Express Testing patients in the lab

Interact with Express Testing patients to acquire blood and urine samples as per physician orders

Maintain a system of confidentiality according to clinic’s policies and procedures and HIPAA guidelines

Foster teamwork within the clinic

Maintain and perform necessary plans and inspections to help Texas Health Action ensure a workplace free from serious recognized hazards and maintain OSHA compliance

Perform annual OSHA Inspection via approved system for Travis County based THA facilities

Complete OSHA Form 300 as required for each applicable work-related injury or illness via approved system

Annually, complete OSHA Form 300-A to summarize all applicable work-related injuries or illnesses that occurred during the prior year

In conjunction with compliance, ensure that the OSHA Form 301 is completed for each recordable work-related injury or illness

Create and maintain the Fire Prevention Plan and Exposure Control Plan for Travis County THA locations, ensuring annually that they remain up-to-date

Perform the annual Hazard Assessment Inspection for the Travis County THA locations

Hold Quarterly Safety Meetings for the clinical staff and clinicians, document meetings with minutes

Compensation

Based on job duties and requirements, this position is placed in salary band 42 with an hourly range of $22.06 to $25.37 per hour. Initial placement within this range will be based on hired candidate's qualifications and relevant experience.

Requirements

Your previous work life, experience & education must include:

  • Working knowledge of infection control and universal precautions
  • Familiarity with testing performed in Clinic’s CLIA-waived laboratory
  • Acquiring and processed lab specimens
  • Working effectively with providers, staff, volunteers, and patients, as well as community partners
  • Having the ability to observe, document, and communicate lab-related issues, and to exercise independent judgment, well-informed decision-making and problem-solving
