A day in the life of a Lab Assistant…    
  • Demonstrates ability to consistently meet work schedule demands in the clinic.
  • Obtains adequate blood specimens from patients using appropriate specimen collection and handling procedures.
  • Labels all specimens in accordance with clinical laboratory standards and Clinic policies and procedures.
  • Prepares specimens for delivery or delivers to appropriate laboratory areas.
  • Within scope of training, performs laboratory testing utilizing laboratory equipment in accordance with Clinic policies/procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Performs Quality Controls and Quality Assurance within scope of testing.
  • Performs computer functions to support collection and processing of specimens.
  • Able to function proficiently within Centricity, Allscripts and Orchard systems.
  • Maintains awareness of own safety in carrying out duties and responsibilities. Adheres to universal precautions and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Assumes accountability for enhancing own knowledge through workshops, in-services, etc.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and uses discretion in patient interactions.
  • Promotes a positive, professional image of The Iowa Clinic both internally and externally. Promotes positive interpersonal relations with all personnel.

Education    
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
Qualifications    
  • License/Certifications: Phlebotomy but not required
  • Previous lab experience
