Role

We are looking for a freelance Kannada Copywriter for the satellite office in India that reports into the Singapore APAC hub, managing Apple’s advertising efforts in India.

The role of the Copywriter is to adapt and localise global advertising in Kannada so that the work remains true to the original strategic concept, while also being culturally attuned to the respective market.

This role is not suitable for a translator; it requires a creative problem-solver with the highest level of linguistic skills. The Copywriter must be able to creatively marry a deep understanding of the cultural nuances of the market and its language, with best-in-class copywriting in Kannada that simultaneously aligns with the Apple tone of voice and remains true to the original message of the US master.

The Copywriter’s responsibility to ensure the highest standards of creativity and craft are demonstrated in every aspect of their copywriting so that the output culturally resonates and amplifies the brand’s position within the market.

The Copywriter forms an integral part of our creative department and reports into our copywriting leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn and perfect the Apple tone of voice, creative style and brand identity for your market.
  • Adhere to all applicable style guides, glossaries and technical terminology.
  • Utilise your creative skills to concept and adapt global advertising in line with agreed strategy.
  • Transcreating, vetting and feeding back on the applicability and cultural relevance of all advertising copy during global creative development.
  • Transcreate scripts/VOs/supers/end lines as necessary across all advertising formats.
  • Ensure all creative output is culturally attuned, locally relevant and provides for perfect comprehension in line with the US master assets.
  • Fully understand the master creative and ensure that your transcreated copy accurately communicates the spirit, strategic meaning and feeling of the original message.
  • Consistently demonstrate the highest degree of creativity and care for the work befitting of Apple.
  • Provide rationales for copy and address all client feedback until final approvals are in place.
  • Transcreate all social copy across online formats.
  • Ensure all ancillary content in any advertising spot is localised as necessary for the market, and work with art directors and strategists to ensure all copy works within the final execution.
  • Attend voiceover sessions and direct talent to ensure we have all material needed.
  • Work with sound engineers to perfect all VOs, dubbing, and oversee final mixes.
  • Work with art directors in post house to set subtitling/supers to picture in the correct position, rewriting as necessary for the given shots.
  • Work with our Business Affairs team to ensure that all copy meets the relevant legal and regulatory requirements for the market.

  • Native written and spoken fluency in Kannada is a must.
  • Substantial experience in a copywriting role within a creative advertising or marketing environment.
  • Passionate about writing and the creative use of language.

  • Must have a nuanced understanding of language conventions, style and usage, as well as linguistic subtleties.
  • Has worked for an international client with an established brand presence.

  • Retains a connection to the culture of your market and maintains a broad, up-to-date knowledge of language norms and linguistic developments.
  • Clear understanding of the creative development and production processes.
  • A proactive multi-tasker who can repeatedly perform under time pressure.
  • A confident, articulate and engaging communicator with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A collaborative team player who can work effectively with diverse teams across multiple time zones.
  • Possesses an international outlook and a sensitivity to different cultures, languages, communication styles and business practices.
  • An independent character who has the confidence to autonomously deliver the day-to-day role but who is unafraid to ask for guidance when the circumstances require.
  • A continuous improvement mindset to support the development of efficient workflow and process, as well as the maintenance of all style guides and glossaries.
