This position is an enterprise-wide role, responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring and fostering a safety and environmental focused culture across all sites globally. This leader will oversee a globally distributed team of EHS professionals to ensure all EHS programs are effectively implemented to enable the business to thrive.

 

Essential Job Duties

  • Lead the development and execution of health & safety, environmental program aligned to global business programs and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Establish high quality relationships with both site and corporate leadership to identify short and long-term program plans.
  • Provide leadership, direction and support necessary to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations and standards to meet or exceed relevant internal and external safety & environmental standards in a manner consistent with sound business practice.
  • Leads Environmental, health, safety, medical services and security teams creating vision strategy and plans for the Mexicali site. 
  • Manages budget and other resources for his area.
  • Drive the establishment and implementation of strategic plans, in alignment with business and functional needs, to develop, implement, and administer environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs.
  • Lead programs and initiatives to ensure key performance indicators at expected level.  Working with crossfunctional teams to drive performance.
  • Develop health and safety policies and procedures (ergonomics, illness and injury prevention and manufacturing safety), including those pertaining to hazardous materials and work areas.
  • Establish and drive EHS performance to support service level agreements and key performance indicators which are in line with business expectations.
  • Ensure objectives are in alignment with current best practices for occupational health and environmental health and safety.
  • Monitor and evaluate operational effectiveness of EHS program and regulatory compliance with all internal and global regulations.
  • Work with global EHS regulatory agencies and collaborate to set the EHS strategy and implement company policy.
  • Defines and deploys strategies, policies and procedures for security in alignment with local regulations and in compliance with OEA and CTPAT.
  • Manages Security area to ensure asset and property protection.
  • 12+ years of experience in leading occupational health and environmental safety in a manufacturing environment. 5+ years in leading global EHS teams.
  • Expertise in administering and auditing core critical safety programs (i.e., LOTO, fall protection) and hands-on experience in managing and/or auditing industrial environments.
  • Expertise in leading and implementing ISO 14001, 45001, 50001 standards
  • Prior experience in successfully building and leading teams and developing talent across a global EHS function.
  • Strong experience in safety & environmental Mexican regulations.
  • Strong knowledge in CTPAT & OEA programs
  • A team builder who is able to coach and mentor team members and work closely with employees on their continued development.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships to gain the confidence of others and works effectively in a multidisciplinary matrix environment.
  • Strategic thinker with creative and excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Resilient self-starter, who can act independently and learn quickly within a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience managing remote and/or global teams.
  • Excellent analytical skills with an ability to critically interpret and use scientific and clinical data to manage risk assessment.
  • Able to effectively collaborate with site operations, functional leaders and external clients and vendors.
  • Perceptive, creative, and innovative with the ability to contribute new ideas and to build consensus.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy with a strong commitment to business ethics.

 

 

  • BS in occupational health or engineering
  • MS or MBA, and nationally recognized safety certification (i.e. CSP, CIH, CPE, CHMM) preferred
