Java Team Lead

We are looking for a Java Team Lead. It's an opportunity to team up with an experienced Java Team Lead to guide one of our teams of highly experienced engineers (3-8 people) and simultaneously to manage daily project operations and to communicate with the project’s customer’s team.

You personally will be responsible for individual professional growth of your subordinates, managing team members’ tasks on a daily basis, supervising and guiding distributed team of professionals along with working through requirements with the customer’s team. Being primary technical point of contact for the customer you should have excellent communication skills, a technical mindset with great attention to details, ability to analyze suggested approaches and come up with better solutions.

This is also an incredible opportunity to work on high availability and consistency of a distributed system that processes millions of operations on daily basis. On top of that you'll be presented other challenges such as (but not limited to):

  • Backend implementation of complex business logic related to options strategies trading, refinement of existing components (core trading system, key modules and services, administrative UI backend),
  • Creating an API layer for the trading data in a convenient form for use in the client terminal,
  • Teamwork: mandatory code reviews, daily meetings, participation in planning and retrospectives, interaction with QA engineers, analysts, and other teams,
  • Cover the code with the unit, integration tests, and CI/CD configuration,
  • Communicate with the client and participate in requirements elaboration, architecture discussions, and external demos,
  • Ensure good monitoring and efficient incident processing.

Along with that you’re going to be expected to maintain high test coverage and instil best coding practices in the team. Finally, all the team members are expected to be actively involved with system health monitoring and its support.

We expect the Java Team Lead to:

  • Oversee daily team operations,
  • Provide mentorship and share knowledge,
  • Maintain and enhance the development process (similar to Scrum),
  • Collaborate with the customer’s team to analyze and work on requirements, including implementation specifics,
  • Estimate effort required for requirements,
  • Manage implementation details to ensure consistency with the initial design,
  • Participate in code reviews,
  • Develop new features,
  • Write unit and integration tests.

Must-have skills:

  • Proven experience as a team lead managing a team of 4-5 developers,
  • Strong proficiency in the Java programming language,
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities,
  • Comprehensive understanding of the testing pyramid, particularly unit, integration, and acceptance testing,
  • A keen interest in writing, optimizing, documenting, and maintaining code that is thoroughly covered by tests,
  • A strong commitment to achieving team goals, a willingness to assist colleagues, and the ability to give and receive constructive criticism,
  • Proficiency in English language (C1 level or higher) to effectively communicate with the team and client.

Nice-to-have skills: 

  • Experience with the Spring framework,
  • Experience in scaling applications horizontally,
  • Hands-on experience in writing concurrent Java code,
  • Knowledge of XP practices with the willingness to implement them,
  • A desire to mentor and share knowledge with others,
  • Experience in software and application design and architecture,
  • Previous experience in the Fintech industry.
