1. POSITION BACKGROUND
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare. The organization operates in diverse contexts worldwide, leveraging the expertise and experience of thousands of staff members both on-site in projects and at headquarters and operations centers. To harness this wide expertise, adapt to evolving medical knowledge, and improve organizational effectiveness, MSF engages in a continuous intersectional collaborative process.
Intersectional Medical Platforms are crucial for medical collaboration, with core functions including:
- CONNECTION OF PRACTICE: Connecting experts and medical practitioners across the movement to share expertise and maximize synergies;
- COMMUNICATION OF TECHNICAL GUIDANCE: Making sure that technical guidance is accessible for everyone (especially practitioners in the field), relevant and adapted to the operational reality where necessary;
- INTERSECTIONAL REPRESENTATION: Coordinating intersectional medical and technical recommendations for MSF staff to use in representation and advocacy.
The Intersectional Medical Platforms Support Officer is a vital part of the International Medical Coordination office. The international medical coordination team consists of 35 people based in 15 countries. Additionally, each coordinator and team member collaborate with MSF personnel in 23 sections and MSF projects.
2. PLACE IN THE ORGANIZATION
The officer will:
- Report to the International Medical Coordinator (IMC)
- Interact with the IMC officer, IKM Team Leader, translation coordinator, intersectional medical platforms, and other necessary contacts.
3. OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION
- Support the review of medical guidance documents' utility, usefulness, and effectiveness in the field, identifying potential efficiencies in their production.
- Support all intersectional medical platforms with meeting facilitation, knowledge management, information sharing, and communication.
- Coordinate (ad interim) the translation of intersectional medical guidance documents.
4. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
4.1 International Medical Coordination
4.1.1 International Medical Guidance Documents:
- Guide and advise medical platforms in organizing, maintaining, and sharing medical guidance documents, ensuring user-friendliness;
- Support the revision process of intersectional medical guidance documents;
- Oversee translation projects, ensuring smooth and efficient execution, and completion within expectations. Regularly monitor the progress, development, and budget of translation projects;
4.1.2 Support to the Intersectional Medical Platforms:
- Advise medical platforms and offer technical support with SharePoint;
- Help implement best knowledge management practices in accordance with the guidelines developed by the IO IKM Team;
- Regularly interact with the Knowledge Management Team Leader to seek advice and guidance, ensuring uniform knowledge management practices within the medical platforms;
- Provide coordination support, including meeting facilitation, agenda definition, objectives setting, and ensuring smooth internal communication within medical platforms;
- Provide coordination support for the development of annual plans, annual reporting, platform renewal and track of actions from each platform meeting;
- Promote and facilitate peer exchange between platforms and accompany individual platforms where support is needed;
- Provide communication support, including technical assistance with tools such as Teams and Zoom
