What You’ll Do

The goal of the Intellectual Property (IP) Group at Samsung is to build a strong IP portfolio through patent harvesting, prosecution, and analysis to maximize the R&D performance. You will be part of the Analytics Team within IP Group, where we heavily leverage machine learning to develop next-generation products for patent and scientific articles classification, human-in-the-loop learning, text generation, text ranking, anomaly detection, and many more! You will benefit a lot by working in a fun and creative environment. 

The Intellectual Property (IP) Group is looking for an outstanding and self-motivated intern this summer to aid in building novel systems for text classification, text generation, and temporal analysis of text data. They will work as part of a team on research, experimentation, analysis, and implementation of algorithms for text classification, text generation, and text analysis, as well as aid in designing novel algorithms and publishing research findings in top machine learning conferences.

Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our San Jose headquarters 3 days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time 
Reports to: Staff Engineer, Semiconductor Device Development

• Conduct scientific research to design and develop novel machine learning algorithms in the field of natural language processing for language modeling, text generation, and extracting relevant information from text data
• Collaborate and coordinate with other researchers on developing novel machine learning algorithms
• Prepare presentations and technical reports to show experimental results and findings
• Summarize and publish research findings in high-quality research paper and/or patent submissions
• Ability to think creatively and to work well both as part of a team and as an individual contributor
• Eager to learn new algorithms, new application areas, and new tools
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

What You Bring

• Master's student (PhD student preferred) in computer science, engineering, statistics, mathematics, information technology, or a related technical discipline
• Strong background in machine learning, specifically deep learning
• Background in natural language processing, text classification, and text generation algorithms
• Knowledge of temporal text mining or working with temporal data
• Strong programming skills such as Python or MATLAB
• Experience with machine learning frameworks such as Tensforflow, Keras, or PyTorch
• Strong background in neural networks and neural language models preferred.
• Strong research skills proven by publication record preferred.
• Background in natural language processing, text classification, and text generation algorithms preferred.
