About the role as Intern, Communications and Public Affairs Intern
The role will support all Communications functions - Internal, External and Government Relations - as we celebrate Wealthsimple’s 10-year anniversary and pursue our ambitious goals for continued growth. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Manager, Public Affairs and work with the entire Communications team and colleagues across the company.
We are currently looking for candidates for an 8-month term (January to end of August 2025).
This is a hybrid role requiring attendance at Wealthsimple’s downtown Toronto office (minimum 2 days/week).
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Contribute to the impact of a critical function at a fast-growing Canadian company.
- Support internal and external communications by writing and creating content for various audiences.
- Contribute to campaigns to further raise the company’s profile in media markets across Canada.
- Conduct competitor analysis, research and media monitoring on the Canadian and international fintech landscape, looking for trends that support our communications and policy objectives.
- Support government relations and advocacy campaigns to improve financial services infrastructure in Canada and provide more choice to Canadians working toward financial freedom.
- Monitor and assess emerging federal and provincial legislative and regulatory activities to evaluate potential impacts on Wealthsimple’s business.
- Gain exposure to our Product, Operations, Compliance and Marketing teams to identify communications and policy opportunities and issues and support our ambitious product roadmap and mission.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Recently completed (within 6 months) or is currently enrolled in a diploma/degree program in Communications, Public Policy or similar.
- Is a quick learner. The fintech landscape in Canada is complex, constantly changing, and encompasses banking, capital markets, payments, tax, crypto and more. It’s great if you have expertise in some of these issues, but what’s most important is that you can quickly gain it.
- Is a great writer. You have the ability to take complex topics and issues and communicate them in the Wealthsimple way: clear, concise, jargon-free and human.
- Is motivated and accountable. You are comfortable taking initiative and constantly searching for ways to make a positive and meaningful contribution to advancing our business priorities.
