The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
Responsibilities
- Directly manage technician teams that support the build, assembly, and integration of Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs).
- Monitor labor hours and overtime, approve time cards and assist in the implementation of time management and improvement plans.
- Allocate the team toward the right task, based upon the skills of the individual & the priorities of the company.
- Regular communication updates to Leadership (including needs relating to schedule, manpower and equipment).
- Review work instructions with management and engineers to ensure the technicians have accurate and complete instructions and, if necessary, recommend changes.
- Maintain workflow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods.
- Develop and implement cost reductions processes and efficiency improvement measures.
- Building and maintaining work-class production spaces for the team to work.
- Tool & Equipment programs to ensure we have the right tools to perform work, that we treat tools with respect.
- Train new employees on procedures and equipment as needed.
- Cross-training of technicians to increase versatility of the team, and create career paths for technicians.
- Accountability for TBC practices & policies: safety, time management, equipment/tools handling, quality workmanship, urgency.
- Initiate and foster a spirit of cooperation within and between shifts and other departments.
- Perform production risk identification and mitigation.
- Enforce systems and company policies.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of professional experience in a manufacturing/production environment OR high school degree (or GED equivalent) and 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
- 1+ years of experience leading a technical team (ideally build/assembly/integration).
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field OR experience driving complex technical projects.
- Familiarity with design for manufacturability, and failure mode effects analysis.
- Experience bringing growing teams and processes from development to desirable production.
- Safety training and/or safety certifications.
- Able to adapt to major shifts in priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
- Excellent concentration and attention to detail with outstanding work efficiency and accuracy.
- High level of ownership and responsibility when carrying out projects/tasks.
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with engineering and production.
Additional Requirements
- Tunnel Boring Machines typically involve building in tight quarters and physical dexterity is required.
- Physical effort including sitting or standing for extended periods of time and lifting and carrying weight such as materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs. unassisted).
- Work performed in an environment with exposure to fumes, odors, and noise.
- Occasionally exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments (heat, cold, rain).
- Able to travel for short trips as needed.
- Must be available for all shifts, extended hours and weekends as needed.
