As an integral member of the BlueCat Learning and Development Team, the Instructional Designer is responsible for creating quality, in-depth and structured training content on technical networking subjects for customers, partners and employees. The Instructional Designer is responsible for researching, content mapping, scripting, designing and producing comprehensive storyboards to enable the production of video elearning modules and courses. The Instructional Designer will additionally produce Instructor-led training content in powerpoint, and technical lab content in the form of lab guide instructions. This role will also be responsible for developing exercises, assessment, and reinforcement activities within our Learning Management System, and assist with the growth and development of the BlueCat Certification Program. 

Working closely with technical Subject Matter experts (SMEs) and other members of the L&D Team including the Course Developer, the Instructional Designer will research, and write scripts towards developing highly technical and engaging learning experiences. This role will communicate their vision and plan for the training program in a storyboard detailing narration, on-screen text, animation, video assets, network diagrams and other visual aids to be used in course development.

After onboarding, the successful candidate will be able to use our software products at a basic level to help their understanding of product features where appropriate. An intermediate knowledge of networking concepts and protocols as well as the desire and aptitude to learn and comprehend technical topics at a deeper level will be required for this role. The successful candidate will be comfortable building educational material on highly technical topics through research and collaboration with subject matter experts to bring the relevant information to life in a clear and concise manner, knowing when to stay broad and when to go deep.

Key Responsibilities:
·        Work with internal subject matter experts to obtain an in-depth understanding of learning topics to inform content development
·        Research topics by testing in a lab environment and fact-checking in multiple sources
·        Chunking content and organizing topics into a structured, logical sequence delivered as a content map or course outline.
·        Deliver scripts that demonstrate strong, clear and concise writing by taking complex technical material and delivering it in a natural, confident, friendly tone.
·        Produce high-quality educational material that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience
·        Produce networking diagrams and other rough illustrative models as reference material for the Course developer to build as animations.
·        Provide step-by-step instructions for the course developer to follow in the creatin of high-quality animations of concepts and processes.
·        Build lab guide instructions that give students the ability to practice skills demonstrated in course content 
·        Create tutorials that provide engineering teams with the knowledge and skills needed to work with our applications.
·        Edit, standardize, or clarify material prepared by other Training Team members.  
·        Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of development. 
·        Participate in cross-training sessions with the Training Team to help further professional development across the entire Training Team. 
·        Work in an agile development environment and be able to gather information for a content development assignment from a variety of sources, including Product/Engineering, Customer Success and Field Teams, as well as other varied resources across the company.  

Requirements:
·        Proven working experience in designing instructional materials for adult learners 
·        Experience delivering high-quality educational material covering technical and/or abstract concepts 
·        Able to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text, pictures, rough diagrams, or video
·       Curiosity and willingness to ask questions to develop an understanding of how things work.
·       Effective communicator using clear, concise language and able to simplify complex concepts into easily understandable/digestible prose.
·        Highly motivated, with the drive to improve existing deliverables, initiate new actions in line with business objectives, and deliver results often under tight deadlines  
·        Able to use strong judgment and decision-making skills in ambiguous situations and recommend appropriate actions  
·        Solid understanding of networking, virtualization, Linux, cloud, and programming, or an aptitude to learn these technologies
