About the team and position

We need to be super approachable and always willing to go above and beyond to help our Carvana family. It could be as simple as connecting their monitor to as complicated as tuning their flux capacitor to precisely 1.21 gigawatts! We expect smart people who are doers with bright ideas, willing to put their game-face on, take on new challenges, and juggle many assignments at once.

"Where hardware meets software," our new Industrial Service Technician will help maintain and extend all of our custom mechanical systems.  From Car Vending Machines to our Photo Studio Turntables and more!  We’re looking for someone with a background in industrial commissioning and maintenance.

What you’ll be doing

  • Assembling and installing mechanical systems then testing to make sure they are working correctly
  • Must work in full compliance with the approved safety regulations
  • Identifying and repairing problematic parts of a machine by running tests, making temporary repairs, or installing new parts
  • Dismantling older machines and replacing them with new ones
  • Overseeing preventive maintenance by identifying and correcting potential issues, removing worn out pieces and lubricating mechanical parts
  • Using machinery or equipment, such as forklifts, to move mechanical parts
  • Basic knowledge of rigging
  • 80% travel required, occasionally on short notice for emergency situations
  • Good at adhering to strict safety guidelines and cognizant of safety risks
  • Support troubleshooting of industrial technology issues that arise within our vending machines and photo studios by handling live phone and video support
  • Assist with maintaining a knowledge base of known issues and workarounds
  • Document and provide feedback on problematic trends and patterns associated with service, including viable recommendations for improvement
  • Assist in the setup and maintenance of lighting systems, sound systems, and industrial control systems for machines
  • Other duties as assigned

What you should have

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Mechanical aptitude in dealing with wrenches, hammers, forklifts, and other similar tools
  • Working knowledge of mechanical technical skills to allow them to effectively read documents such as specifications, machine manuals, and blueprints
  • Proficient in troubleshooting techniques to solve machine issues
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to be a team player due to constant interactions with similar employees and stakeholders such as Engineers, Plant Managers, and Part Vendors, amongst others
  • MacGyver-esque (yep, it's a word) mentality when approaching problems 
  • Crazy good technical troubleshooting skills
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems and wiring is a plus!

Other requirements

To be able to do your job at Carvana, there are some basic requirements we want to share with you.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds independently; majority of lifting from knee to shoulder heights; other lifting required from various levels.
  • Must be able to carry and transport up to 70 pounds up to 20 feet.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder to heights up to 150 feet.
  • Requires excellent visual acuity and manual dexterity.
