Primary Function of Position
The Industrial Designer – Ion Systems will partner with other senior industrial designers on the design and development of next-generation products and solutions as well as improvements over existing product lines. As a natural collaborator, the industrial designer will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, clinical development, human factors, and product management, to conceptualize and shape future product opportunities. You will leverage a deep understanding of user needs, ergonomics, design principles, and manufacturing processes to transform complex technical designs into elegant, intuitive, and manufacturable products. By employing rapid prototyping techniques, you will visualize and communicate design concepts, facilitating consensus-building and informed decision-making. Additionally, you will create compelling narratives that illustrate new user benefits and opportunities, effectively communicating design vision to diverse audiences.
Essential Job Duties
- Employs a human-centered design process to help teams frame problems and define opportunities
- Collaborates with other User Experience Design team members to create compelling integrated user experiences
- Utilizes a range of 2D and 3D tools and techniques to develop designs
- Distills technical and ergonomic requirements and develops a range of solutions that synthesize usability, utility, manufacturability, and desirability
- Works with product development and engineering groups throughout in the product development lifecycle to generate conceptual product designs and opportunities
- Combines industrial design priorities with the objectives of our process partners
- Translates and captures brand attributes in compelling physical forms
- Generates functional and/or appearance prototypes to conceptually explore and validate design choices
- Participates in user research, case observation, usability testing, and clinical research labs
- Delivers manufacturable design proposals to engineering for production
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
Required Skills and Experience
- An exceptional portfolio that demonstrates human-centered design process and delivering successful products from concept to production
- A comprehensive set of prototyping skills from quick low-fi foam models to fabricating more complex functional learning prototypes. Experience with interactive prototyping is a plus.
- Exceptional 2D visualization skills including sketching, storyboarding, and digital rendering
- Exceptional 3D CAD and visualization skills to develop technically viable and compelling design solutions
- Experience with SolidWorks is required. Specific experience with complex surfacing is a plus
- Demonstrable experience collaborating successfully with engineering and product marketing teams to develop designs and bring products to market
- A solid understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and DFM considerations
- Excellent storytelling and presentation skills and an ability to effectively communicate a user-centered point of view
Required Education and Training
- Minimum 4 years of experience in professional industrial design roles
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design

It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications.
