Reporting to the Director, Social Performance, the Human Rights Integration Co-op supports the development and implementation of Teck’s human rights program with an emphasis on risk management. This position will work closely with various internal teams, including operations, projects and exploration. Depending on the needs and location of the team, you will need to work PDT or MDT or relocate to a specific office (site-based). You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Work across business units and functional groups at sites to collectively improve the social performance of the company, including program development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
- Support the ongoing development, training and implementation of Teck’s human rights standards across the mining lifecycle.
- Facilitate the development of systems, processes and capacity-development in support of social risk and impact management.
- Prepare reports, data, and case studies on activities for external reports (such as Teck’s Sustainability Report, the S&P’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment, and Teck’s Annual Report.)
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a relevant post-secondary program such as mining, social science, law, international development/relations, economics, sustainability, business/economic development, public policy, or similar field.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following skills: capacity development, adult training or education, group facilitation and collaboration, systems thinking, project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
- Technical knowledge/experience in corporate social responsibility, specifically in mining or extractives, is an asset
- Knowledge of international business and human rights standards and principles is desired (e.g. UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), IFC Performance Standards, UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Reporting Initiative)
- Integrity, respect and solutions-focused with a dedication to participatory community and sustainable development.
- Excellent interpersonal, planning and decision making skills.
- Proven understanding of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint).
- Spanish language skills is desired
- Open for potential travel during the co-op work term
