The HR Specialist position oversees all Human Resources functions for Marketopia including, recruiting, compliance, team member engagement, training, etc. The HR Specialist is responsible for the overall coordination, evaluation and improvement of these functions. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; investigations; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Essential Functions
- Plan and coordinate human resources activities and staff an organization of up to 100 people.
- Collaborates with executive leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to employee relations, recruiting, and retention.
- Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.
- Administers human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety (OSHA); and training and development.
- Identifies staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management; creates metrics to support the needs of the business.
- Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
- On-board new team members to include new hire onboarding, buddy program and new team member training program
- Implement company culture, values and policies
- Provide management with requested reports, metrics and documents
- Coordinate events focused on team member recognition
- Accurately maintain team member files both electronically and physical files
- Serve as a link between management and team members by handling questions and helping resolve work-related issues.
- Analyze and modify compensation and benefits policies to establish competitive programs and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Advise managers on organizational policy matters, such as equal employment opportunity and sexual harassment, and recommend needed changes.
- Perform difficult staffing duties, including dealing with understaffing, refereeing disputes, terminating team members, and administering disciplinary procedures.
- Plan and conduct new team member orientation to foster positive attitude toward organizational objectives.

Education & experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required;
- SHRM Certification preferred
- At least 2+ years of human resources experience required
- Proven working experience in HR in a small to medium sized business
- People oriented, people focused and results driven
- Ability to research, recommend, and implement strategy
- Excellent active listening, negotiation and presentation skills
- Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company
- In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices to include ADA, FMLA, DOL
- High level of Emotional Intelligence to have the ability to work with a varying degree of personality styles and leadership styles.
