Our quickly growing organization is ready to develop an HR capability and you could be our first Human Resources Manager.
You are an experienced HR professional with experience in employee development and engagement, talent selection, and benefits administration. Leaders view you as a strategic partner and colleagues see you as someone who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves. Selecting and implementing a new HRIS will be an immediate priority. We are looking for you to also develop strategies and programs for the full life cycle of the employee experience (hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes).
This role will be a part of Hello Neighbor’s Operations team, reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Finance Team and Office Manager to support the business operations trifecta for the entire organization: human resources, finance, and operations.
Founded in 2017, Hello Neighbor works to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee families by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new home. We’ve expanded from our mentorship program to now include refugee resettlement services, family service programs, a national program supporting other refugee and immigrant nonprofits around the country.
This is an in-house regular, full-time exempt position at our Pittsburgh, PA office in Larimer. We are currently on a hybrid work schedule of 9am-5pm Monday through Friday; in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and work-from-home on Mondays and Fridays. We require the COVID-19 vaccination for full-time employees. The successful candidate must be currently authorized to work in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment and Hiring: Develop hiring strategies, create job descriptions, conduct interviews, and oversee the hiring and onboarding process for new employees, contractors, and interns.

Employee Relations: Support supervisors to effectively manage employee needs. Build strong relationships with employees to ensure a positive work environment.

Policy Development: Create and implement HR policies and procedures, including employee handbooks, workplace guidelines, and compliance with labor laws.

Compensation and Benefits Management: Establish the compensation philosophy and structure, administering employee benefits, and ensuring market competitiveness.

Performance Management: Set up performance review practices, support employee development, and handle performance issues.

Training and Development: Identify training needs, support professional development programming, and promote career development within the organization.

Legal Compliance: Ensure compliance with employment laws, workplace safety regulations, and other legal standards.

HR Systems, Payroll and Reporting: Implement HR technology, manage employee records, support finance with payroll processing needs and provide management with key HR reports.

Preferred Qualifications
- At least five years’ education and/or experience in related fields, such as business administration, payroll clerk, administrative assistant, etc.
- SHRM and/or HRCI Certification(s) a plus
- Prior experience with currently used systems a plus, but not required; our current primary systems include: Gusto Payroll (subject to change, please indicate on application any other payroll systems you may have prior experience with): Quickbooks Online; G-Suite/G-Mail/Google Workplace, Drive; Slack and Notion
- Able to cultivate excellent relationships with both internal and external constituencies
- Flexibility and ability to work occasional evening or weekend shifts if necessary
- Effective collaboration with others through cooperative efforts
- Possesses cultural competencies, encompassing knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors relevant to the communities served

Additional Details
- This is a regular, full-time non-exempt in-house position at our Pittsburgh office in the Larimer neighborhood
- Clearances required: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal History Clearance (PA Act 23 & Act 24)
- Valid driver’s license preferred

- Pay rate: $24-26, payable biweekly
