Osmo is hiring a

Human Resources Business Partner

New York, United States

Who we are at Osmo:

Osmo is a digital olfaction company, on a mission to give computers a sense of smell to improve the health and wellbeing of human life. Why? Our sense of smell both enriches and saves lives, and has a deep and direct connection to our emotions and memory. Vision and hearing have been digitized, but not scent. It’s time we solve this. We’re bringing an unprecedented combination of software, data, hardware and capital to the historic challenge of giving computers a sense of smell.

We believe in the power of automation and carefully applied AI/ML to solve problems that are beyond what the unaided human mind can tackle on its own. In the first phase of our development, we are using our map of odor along with cutting-edge generative AI to create the next generation of aroma molecules (e.g., the ingredients in the fragrances we wear and the products we use). We're a hybrid company with a laboratory and center-of-mass in Somerville, MA and New York, NY.

Osmo is hiring a Human Resources Business Partner to join our growing team. In this role, you will own both strategic development and tactical implementation of Osmo’s HR initiatives. You are a skilled communicator and have a proven track record in managing HR functions with a focus on enhancing employee engagement, talent development, and company culture. With a hands-on approach to problem-solving and a strategic mindset, you will collaborate closely with all departments to foster a workplace environment that promotes growth, innovation, and inclusivity. Your contributions will be critical in shaping our HR policies and practices, ensuring they support our ambitious growth plans and maintain our status as a leader in our industry.

What you will be doing:

  • You will be the first full-time HR hire for Osmo and own day to day HR operations at Osmo including payroll and benefits administration, management of our PEO relationship, responding to employee questions, and navigating new challenges as they arise.
  • Work directly with our founder and management team to provide leadership and guidance on all people related issues and policies across the company.
  • Develop strategies and processes for employee development, engagement, and performance management. Build an internal process for professional development and work with the management team to ensure that the company culture reflects Osmo’s values and norms.
  • Partner with the management team to recruit, train, develop, and retain the world’s leading olfactory talent at Osmo. You will manage Osmo’s relationship with external recruiting partners. This role is not directly responsible for sourcing and screening candidates for all roles.
  • Continuously evaluate internal processes at Osmo for compliance, efficiency, and success.

What we need to see:

  • 6+ years of HR experience in scaling organizations. SHRM-CP or PHR certification is a plus.
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field
  • Discretion and know-how to handle privileged information in an appropriate manner for the role.
  • Experience directing colleagues toward a common mission without direct supervision.
  • A track record of fostering a multi-office and remote culture in fast growing, multi-disciplinary companies
  • Incredible verbal communicator - able to rally people towards action and convey complexity with ease
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. You are comfortable navigating conflict in a fair and productive manner.
  • Authorization to work in the US and work on-site at least three days a week from our E 29th St, New York, NY location.

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

  • You have scaled tech startups, particularly biotech, hard tech, and R&D orgs successfully
  • You are passionate about scent, chemistry, machine learning, neuroscience, or any and all parts of the Osmo mission
  • Experience in modern HRIS and ATS systems with an eye towards automation and continuous improvement. We use Greenhouse and JustWorks right now.
  • You seek a “Goldilocks level of process” with your work, enough to provide structure but not too much to stifle innovation.
  • You are an advocate and a storyteller for your communities and the people you serve. You are excited and inspired to share Osmo’s mission with new employees.
  • Passionate about working in a fast-paced, fast-changing environment, and a desire to wear multiple hats.

What we offer:

  • Equity in Osmo
  • 401k match
  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • WFH Stipend
  • Flexible time off and working hours

Expected Salary: $150,000 - $175,000
