The Opportunity

The HR Coordinator supports various HR and administrative functions for the organization, playing a pivotal role in supporting our staff and/or the justice-impacted participants we serve. 

This position involves serving as point of contact for HR requests, supporting managers, employees, and/or participants as needed, and collaborating across our Employee Experience team and multiple departments to ensure a compliant and customer centric approach.

They also stay up-to-date and informed about employment law changes, assessing their impact on our HR processes.

Our HR Coordinator role can serve the HR function for staff and/or program participants.

Who We Are 

The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides employment services to people recently released from incarceration. Across the United States, 8,000-9,000 people participate in CEO each year, transitioning to employment that supports themselves, their families, and their communities.

What began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release in New York City has grown into the leading reentry employment organization in the country, where over 30,000 formerly incarcerated individuals have secured full-time employment since 1996.

Who You Are

  • You have familiarity with HR practices, employment laws, and regulations preferred
  • You have strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom & Gmail Suite)
  • You demonstrate the ability to maintain meticulous attention to detail
  • You have exceptional organizational skills, tracking and staying on top of multiple projects
  • You have strong administrative skills, including experience in supporting HR functions
  • You are comfortable working in a dynamic environment with justice-impacted individuals.
  • You have effective communication and collaboration skills to facilitate seamless coordination between HR and other department
  • You have customer service mindset, wanting to serve and support clients to the best of your ability
  • You understand the importance of confidentiality and exercise good judgment to maintain the confidentiality of critical and sensitive information, records, and reports

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Key responsibilities of the HR Ops Coordinator include but are not limited to:

HR Administration

  • Provide administrative support to the HR functions, assisting in onboarding, offboarding, and additional HR processes for staff, apprentices, and/or program participants.
  • Maintain and update HR records with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with local and national laws and regulations
  • Manage HR email inboxes; Promptly respond to incoming personnel records requests, including employment verification requests 
  • Contribute to the development of new hire orientation content, supporting facilitation when needed
  • Collaborate with internal teams as needed to implement CEO’s onboarding process, ensuring all teams have the needed new hire information
  • Input information into our HRIS (ADP) and support with system administration
  • Facilitate communication between HR and other departments to ensure seamless coordination of activities
  • Proactively identify areas for process improvement within HR functions
  • Conduct research and support with idea generation for new HR processes, refined processes, initiatives, and supports

HR Policy, Compliance and Reporting

  • Collaborates with Employee Experience team leadership and  Legal and Compliance team to ensure CEO’s HR practices align with current legal standards
  • Assists in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance 
  • Conducts periodic audits of HR records to ensure compliance
  • Generates and analyzes reports related to HR metrics, presenting findings to the HR team and other relevant stakeholders
  • Contributes to identifying trends and patterns through data analysis and offering insights to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of participant HR processes

Team and Organizational Support

  • Contribute to team meetings
  • Additional responsibilities as needed

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $48,200 - $58,500/annually. CEO's compensation philosophy considers a variety of factors including experience, internal equity, and the labor market associated with the city in which the position is located. The labor markets associated with the cities in which CEO is based are variable, and the salary range included here reflects this. Our salary offer will fall within this range and will be reflective of the labor market of the city in which the position is based, as well the other factors named above. 

We recognize that salary is a part of the overall compensation package and also provide a comprehensive benefits package, including medical and dental coverage, as well as professional development opportunities to our staff.
