ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Healthcare Programs Director to steward and manage ALU's Healthcare Collaborative Program and identify new opportunities in Public Health for the organisation. The individual will empower healthcare entrepreneurs by identifying, cultivating, and supporting visionary leaders building innovative healthcare solutions. Identify methods to help bridge the employment gap by developing programs that connect students with a mission in Healthcare with the opportunities they require to be successful on their missions. Foster a thriving ecosystem through collaboration with stakeholders across the healthcare landscape, building a more robust and inclusive system. This Director ultimately provides strategic direction, ensuring seamless collaboration across all our healthcare programs – entrepreneurship, employment, and healthcare ecosystem development.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Healthcare Program Management

  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to understand healthcare needs and program goals alongside ALU teams and external partners.
  • Manage student internships, program delivery, and secure partnerships with key health stakeholders, implementing healthcare programs.
  • Harvest information about the interests and activities of students with a declared mission in health; curating effective ways to direct students toward relevant opportunities and partnerships.
  • Contribute to planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement of healthcare programs, developing program strategy.
  • Oversee project implementation to meet deadlines and deliver program activities successfully, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Assess and research the requirements to Initiate and seed the School of Public Health

Stakeholder Management (Internal & External)

  • Serve as a point of contact for Mastercard Foundation and other partners, fostering trust and collaboration, building strong relationships.
  • Establish the development, and nurturing of relationships with other participants in the Healthcare Collaborative
  • Identify and engage with internal and external stakeholders relevant to specific program goals, managing stakeholder engagement.
  • Contribute to discussions with partners and stakeholders on program strategy, resources, and challenges, facilitating communication.
  • Prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements, reporting on program progress.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship at ALU and the entrepreneurship team, who will manage the investment of charitable start-up funds through the Health Collab
  • Devise and manage ALU’s contributions to the Health Collaborative website and other communication tools that support the Program.
  • Select, invite and steward visiting experts and faculty who will contribute to ALU’s health programs

Operational Excellence

  • Set up systems and processes to ensure organisational learnings and institutional knowledge of the project. 
  • Operationalise the healthcare collaborative initiatives, ensuring day-to-day processes are set up to be effective, efficient and sustainable.

Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Develop and manage the assigned project budgets and be accountable for delivering against established business goals/objectives.
  • Ensure expenditure is appropriately allocated and accounted for as stipulated by the respective funders
  • Report to and work closely with the operational task force. 
  • Develop, coordinate, and make the best use of the Steering Committee.
  • Managing a complex business calendar with a keen sense of prioritisation and time management while coordinating with internal stakeholders on upcoming deliverables. 



REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have a sharp business mind and a proven ability to strategize and implement high-level program initiatives. As a self-aware leader, you will have a strong talent for project coordination and delegation. Ultimately, you are motivated by the desire to optimise productivity and nurture program success from inception to completion.

Essential:

  • 8+ years of program and relationship or account management experience, preferably achieved with a partnership lens.
  • A passionate advocate for improving healthcare access and quality in Africa.
  • An experienced leader with a proven track record in program development and management.
  • A skilled collaborator who can build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • An innovator who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • An inspiring leader who can ignite the passion of future healthcare leaders.
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changes.
  • An ability to manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional leadership, time management, facilitation, and organisational skills.
  • Outstanding working knowledge of change management principles and performance evaluation processes.
