PPSLRSWMO currently has a full time and part time opening for a Health Center Assistant.  This position is benefited at the Central West End Health Center.

POSITION TITLE: Health Center Assistant I
STATUS: Full Time, Part Time, PRN, Non-exempt
REPORTS TO: Health Center Manager
SALARY: $17.25-$18.70/HR

This position is eligible for up to a $2500 sign on bonus for CMA and RMA.
This position is eligible for up to $1500 sign on bonus without CMA or RMA.
Sign on bonus paid out over the first year of employment and requires one year employment commitment

POSITION SUMMARY
The health center assistant provides quality reproductive and family planning services to patients
through clerical, educational, and laboratory duties. As a part of the health center team, the
HCAs work closely with each other and all health center staff, including nurses, clinicians and
physicians to achieve patient satisfaction and meet health center efficiency goals.
May require day, evening, weekend hours. May requires travel to other PPSLRSWMO sites.
This position also requires computer and writing work that will require sitting at a desk for
extended periods and requires standing for periods of time in excess of one hour and moving
throughout the health center.

LEVEL I RESPONSIBILITIES
● FRONT DESK SKILLS
o Schedules all appointment types
o Registration procedures & appropriate financial/insurance screening – capable of
communicating with insurance verification (RevTELL)
o Provides correct forms to patient & ensures appropriate consents are signed
o Prepares medical chart for the day
o Fiscal accountability & performs appropriate procedures: collects payment;
correctly uses check and charge verification systems, follows open/close
procedures
o PAT patient tracking & EHR documentation proficiency
o Other duties as assigned
o Periodic Travel to affiliate locations may be required

Family Planning
● BACK OFFICE SKILLS
o Accurately collects vitals
o Verbalizes Family Planning & AB education
▪ Contraception, cancer screening, STI/HIV testing/education, AB/pregnancy options counseling
▪ Basic Sterilization education
o Procedural room set-up (LARC, Colpo)
o Basic Lab Proficiency: Run basic labs & controls & follow documentation
procedures; appropriate specimen labeling
▪ Point-of-care in-house labs (HIV, Preg test, UA, Hgb, glucometer)
o Competent in room set-up & turn-over procedures
o Basic sterilizing procedures
o Perform venipuncture
o Prepares & administers injections (SQ & IM) & able to verbalize teach-back for
self-injections
o Other duties as assigned
o Periodic Travel to affiliate locations may be required

Abortion
Sterilization Skills
o Advanced sterilization room procedures
▪ Packaging POC & prepares specimen for transport or disposal
Surgical Suite Skills
o Abortion procedure room assist
Recovery Skills
o Recovery room assist
Abortion Education Skills
o Abortion procedure education (MAB & SAB)
▪ Performs RH testing

Ultrasound Skills
o Perform ultrasound for gestational age dating, during procedures, and post-
procedures.
o Familiarity with key ultrasound findings and be able to communicate with
clinicians about such findings
o Adhere initial privileging and ongoing proctoring procedures required to perform
ultrasound and meet regulatory requirements.
Other duties as assigned
May require travel to other health centers on occasion

QUALIFICATIONS:
● CMA/RMA certification or 1-3 years’ experience in a health center and/or surgical
setting required
● CMA/RMA strongly preferred
● Flexible non-judgmental approach to individuals from diverse backgrounds
● Strong background in family planning, abortion and human sexuality a plus
● Experience in counseling/social work/crisis intervention a plus
● Commitment to excellent patient care
● Effective verbal and written English communication skills
● CPR certification desired
● Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff and volunteers
● Detail-oriented
● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; able to juggle multiple priorities.
● Bilingual skills a plus, particularly Spanish, Serbo-Croatian, or Vietnamese
● Experience in customer service a plus
● High school diploma or GED certificate required
● Salary commensurate with certification and experience
