The Department: International Leadership
The Role: Head of UK
The Head of the UK, based in London, will be an industry leader facilitating our full operational, regulatory, and commercial development to drive growth and success in the UK. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing licensed and regulated operating infrastructure that advances the expansion of Gemini’s product offerings in the UK. The UK is a key market in Gemini’s international expansion and the candidate will work closely with the UK team and other functional and business stakeholders regionally and globally to achieve growth milestones for Gemini in the market.
The Head of UK will build regulatory relationships with the FCA providing oversight, advice, and recommendations (alongside Gemini’s Compliance and Legal functions) to the leadership team. Building proactive relationships with these regulators will help to future-proof Gemini to commercial and regulatory developments.
They will also be the operational leader for the London hub, and will directly manage several staff from various disciplines including Compliance, Risk and Finance. Finally, the Head of UK will be the face of Gemini in the UK market, and as such, will be the ultimate point of contact in the country for clients, regulators, and other third parties as appropriate.
This position will report to Gemini’s Head of Europe.
Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day of the office and entity in the UK
- Develop and implement country product and market strategies in conjunction with regional and global leadership
- Develop and execute a UK business plan to maximise market share and client growth
- In close collaboration with local and regional functions, continue to grow the presence of Gemini in the country at the operational, commercial, and regulatory level
- Lead and drive a proactive relationship with the FCA
- Ensure that the local UK entities continue to meet their regulatory obligations
- Continue to build the UK team, hiring, retaining, and developing individuals across varying disciplines and levels of seniority
- Provide strategic insight to Gemini’s global Institutional Sales team on the nuances of the local UK market and play an active role in growing the business, acquiring and growing customer relationships
- Through engagement with Group Marketing, work to elevate the brand and positioning of Gemini in the UK
- Conduct business and financial planning for Gemini’s UK-based business, in partnership with the Head of Europe and the Global Finance team
- Responsible for UK entities oversight of relevant global shared services. Ensure best-in-class approach to all operational aspects of the business process
- Work with the local board and global Leadership to establish short-range and long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies for Gemini’s business in the UK
- Review financial forecast, budgeting and financial reporting, as prepared by the Finance team
- Advise on how Gemini’s offerings need to evolve to match the current and future needs of the UK market and surpass similar offerings of competitors
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience leading teams across a range of business and functional domains, including technology, operations, legal, risk, compliance, commercial sales, and client services
- Operating within sophisticated and international financial services businesses (including banking, payments, or broader FinTech)
- A proven track record of building proactive, long-lasting relationships with the regulator in the UK
- Experience driving operating effectively in an extremely high growth, matrixed environment
- A track record of working across boundaries and functions to ensure communication, decision-making, strategy and execution are in line with global objectives, yet appropriately applied to the UK
- Proven experience within a relevant, regulated financial services organisation and a strong understanding of sophisticated products and services with relevant adjacencies to digital assets, including current/ developing knowledge of the emerging regulatory requirements
- The experience, gravitas, confidence and stature to make a strong impact at all levels both internally and with external audiences
- Strong team player with a collaborative mindset
- Ability to proactively analyse relevant business drivers and strategies with senior management and colleagues to put in place appropriate processes and controls
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in the Digital Assets industry is ideal but previous experience leading organisations with integral technology platforms such as Global Transaction Services, Global Markets, Custody, Clearing and Exchanges or broader e-Commerce, Payment Services etc. will also be advantageous
- Experience working within a global organisation and tasked with launching in or scaling in a new jurisdiction
- Previously registered with FCA as a senior manager
