KHOU, a TEGNA-owned station in Houston, TX, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Technology and Operations to lead our technical and operational excellence. This critical leadership role reports directly to the Regional Head of Technology and Operations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations for core infrastructure, studios, control rooms, post-production, and transmission for live programming.
  • Lead technical support for critical hardware/software systems.
  • Monitor and ensure on-air technical quality while driving workflow improvements for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Develop and execute short- and long-term technology strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with FCC regulations and critical security policies (e.g., password security, vulnerability protection).
  • Manage Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans.
  • Oversee department budgeting, vendor contracts, and capital planning processes.
  • Lead station-wide project planning and management initiatives.
  • Stay updated on emerging broadcast technologies (e.g., ENPS newsroom systems, RF transmission).

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in broadcast operations/technology leadership
  • Expertise in broadcast technologies (e.g., video switchers, routers) and IT processes (e.g., security protocols)
  • Strong decision-making skills under pressure with a customer-focused approach
  • Proven project management experience with excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
  • Flexibility to support a 24/7/365 operation

Our 401(k) program offers full, part-time and temporary employees the opportunity to contribute 1% - 80% of their pay on a pre-tax basis to TEGNA’s 401(k). Contributions made up to the first 4% of pay are eligible for a 100% match from the company and are 100% vested from day one.

Regardless of participation in TEGNA medical plans, ALL employees and their eligible family members receive nine free virtual doctor’s appointments with a physician through Teladoc, and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health.
