Head of Software Engineering

Gousto is looking for a Head of Software Engineering, based out of our London office, to support two of our core Tribes. This will include our eCommerce platform, a large part of which we are productising as a spinoff SaaS business, and our factory platform. These Tribes will be essential in scaling the Gousto proposition in line with our ambition in the years to come. 

In addition, you will help lead a technology transformation that focuses on productivity, increased technical proficiency, and a focus on optimising ways of working. Our current tech strategy will focus on two major goals: 

  • Directing attention on what matters most to our customers. We aim to outsource commodity work, reduce maintenance and costs of running the business, so we can focus 90% of our energy on our strategic differentiators
  • Accelerating innovation. We’re looking both at the discovery process and at speeding up delivery through faster feedback loops and easy to use interfaces

Core Responsibilities:

  • Leading and making strategic decisions for our Activate and Unbox tribes
  • Emphasising best in class people leadership, driving our Goustonians to think big, whilst focusing on impact 
  • Working with our Principal Engineers to be opinionated on the big architectural decisions
  • Thought and execution leader about building best in class engineering teams with lean and quality mindset
  • Engineering leader, working across functions to drive commercial impact, through close collaboration with Product, Delivery and business leaders 

Who You Are

  • Highly motivated individual who shares our vision and is passionate to deliver on behalf of our customers
  • Able to demonstrate successful track record driving Engineering teams on a multi-year platform and product vision
  • Proven leader, driving teams through a positive culture of high learning and high performance 
  • Experience in leading and managing large technical teams
  • You can clearly demonstrate the impact and success of your previous work and your team’s work in line with business objectives
  • You make good decisions in complex situations where there’s often no “right answer”
  • Strong technical expertise, capable of driving and owning complex conversations and decisions around architecture with our Engineering community  
  • Experience driving sustainable innovation to a high standard
  • Passionate about people - you love to shape the future through coaching and being an example for your team
  • You love to challenge yourself and those around you to achieve the best results, creating an environment of healthy feedback loops and learning
  • Someone who thrives in a fast-paced, Agile, technology focused environment
