We are hiring a Head of Product for our Research and Data programme. At Our Future Health, data is our core product. For some time, we have been acquiring data to support the programmes goal of helping future generations live in good health for longer. We are now at an exciting point in this journey where we are taking a new product to market and tailoring it to support different user groups. We are looking for you to come in and take an existing product and implement a vision and strategy to make this as impactful as possible to our researchers. This is an incredibly collaborative role and you'll have excellent stakeholder management skills with an ability to tailor your approach and message to different audiences. You'll be a natural enabler, with the ability to bring people with you by generating buy-in to your ideas.
Working closely with the Executive Director for Researcher Data and Product and colleagues across the organisation (Access and Governance, Science, Data, Technology, Strategic Partnerships, Business Development and Delivery), you will develop the product strategy and roadmap to develop a platform and data that enables researcher customers from academia, charities, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, all the way through to large commercial entities to conduct research that will ultimately help people to live longer and healthier lives.
Our Future Health will be the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.
Our plan is to bring together 5 million volunteers from right across the UK who will be asked to contribute information to help build one of the most detailed pictures we have ever had of people’s health. Researchers will be able to use this information to make new discoveries about human health and diseases. So future generations can live in good health for longer.
What you’ll be doing
- Developing and articulating a clear vision for the products and services across the Research and Data programme, working closely with the Executive Director for Researcher Data and Product - the senior sponsor for this programme.
- Gathering inputs for the strategy by working closely with our experts in Science, Strategic Partnerships and Business Development and by engaging directly with researcher customers.
- Driving a pragmatic user-centred and agile approach to developing products and services.
- Working with the team to ensure that product roadmaps are up to date and aligned to the organisational objectives.
- Working closely with external suppliers and partners. In this case this could involve DNAnexus, the provider of our Trusted Research Environment (TRE).
- Line-management of a team of product managers in the development and maintenance of a suite of products, services and platforms. These enable us to provide data, a Trusted Research Environment to analyse those data, and a set of researcher products and services that enable our researcher customers to access those data compliantly and securely.
- Working with the Executive Director of Product and colleagues in Technology to foster a culture of transparency and trust in the Product and Technology teams. Building understanding and confidence from stakeholders and ensuring that their expertise can feed into the product roadmaps and plans while still maintaining a user-centred approach.
Requirements
To succeed in this role you will be able to demonstrate excellence, knowledge or experience in the following:
- Experience of leading product teams in complex and fast-paced startup/scale up environments. You must be highly collaborative, able to adapt, influence and bring people with you. You are a product champion, rather than an ivory-tower idealist.
- You will need to be comfortable with ambiguity and able to bring people and ideas together to form a consensus.
- A strong communicator who can engage and influence challenging stakeholders both internally and externally.
- You will have a customer-centric approach, able to create products for multiple archetypes (academics, SMEs, large commercial companies as well as our Access Team and internal consumers of data).
- A tenacious and resilient approach, excited rather than daunted by an audacious mission.
- You will have experience and the ability to demonstrate improvement of products and services through key SLA’s e.g. user satisfaction, platform availability, usage metrics, performance metrics and scale metrics.
- Experience managing people within cross-functional teams while leading from the front and taking a more hands-on approach when needed. You will be passionate about helping others to develop and grow.
- You will already be experienced and comfortable having conversations with experts in data, science and technology, but not afraid to ask for clarity if there are topics you have not experienced.
