We’re one of the most popular commerce platforms on the web, powering millions of stores, including our own at woo.com. In fact, one in five online stores are powered by Woo, including Bjork’s official store and the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team’s official store. Built on WordPress, Woo empowers anyone, anywhere, to sell anything. We partner with global technology brands such as Stripe, PayPal, Google, TikTok, Pinterest, Klaviyo and others, integrating their services with Woo to provide all the tools businesses need to run and grow their online stores.
As part of the Automattic family, Woo is fully distributed, with no physical offices. The flexibility and autonomy that come with working from home are in our DNA–we provide benefits and resources to support your growth while doing your best work from anywhere in the world. We have a huge footprint, but we’re a small company. That means everyone here has the opportunity to make a visible, profound, and lasting difference while helping the store owners who rely on Woo every day.
About the role:
We’re looking for a Head of Product and Engineering for the Payments group within WooCommerce. In this role, you will report to the GM of Payments and lead a team of product directors, and engineering, overseeing our payment products and platform. This product portfolio includes our flagship payment solution WooPayments, including a new consumer wallet product WooPay, payment partner extensions and integrations, and our first-party payments processing platform that serves Automattic.
In this role, you will drive the strategic direction of merchant and consumer-facing payment products, as well as the platform strategy that powers these products. You will guide the vision, direction, and priorities, to enhance and transform the experience of our payments and checkout products. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams and leadership across design, marketing, operations, customer success, business development and sales to build alignment in business and product strategy. You will create roadmaps in service to our customers, finding opportunities for monetization that create mutual value exchange for our customer and business, and align closely with the overall WooCommerce product, to ensure seamless experiences. You will be a growth hacker, using optimal product experiences, and partnering with marketing to increase the penetration rate of Woo-owned payments products. You will work closely with payment providers to ensure our products are leveraging their capabilities and integrations appropriately.
This is an ideal role if you are someone who is customer obsessed, and is as energized with guiding the 30k foot view, as you are sweating the details! You care about the experiences you provide to customers, and their shoppers. You take pride not only in what you build, but how you build, helping increase scale, productivity and efficiency in execution. You know the fine balance between empowering your teams, while giving them guidance in how to operate. Your decision process is guided as much in being data-informed, as it is from intuition of your past experiences and listening to your customer. You are equally comfortable in building both iterative and transformational products, with a passion for challenging the status quo and removing blockers. This position is an opportunity to join one of the fastest-growing Business Units across Automattic.

About Automattic
We are the people behind WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Tumblr, Simplenote, Jetpack, Longreads, Day One, PocketCasts, and more. We believe in making the web a better place.
We’re a distributed company with more than 1900 Automatticians in 96 countries speaking 120+ different languages. And, even more than growth and profitability (although we’re plenty profitable), above all, we’re driven by a mission: We democratize publishing and commerce so anyone with a story can tell it, and anyone with a product can sell it, regardless of income, gender, politics, language, or country.
We believe in Open Source, and the vast majority of our work is available under the GPL.
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion at Automattic
We’re improving diversity in the tech industry. At Automattic, we want people to love their work and show respect and empathy to all. We welcome differences and strive to increase participation from traditionally underrepresented groups. Our DEI committee involves Automatticians across the company and drives grassroots change. For example, this group has helped facilitate private online spaces for affiliated Automatticians to gather and helps run a monthly DEI People Lab series for further learning. DEI is a priority at Automattic, though our dedication influences far more than just Automatticians: We make our products freely available and translate our products into and offer customer support in numerous languages. We require unconscious bias training for our hiring teams and ensure our products are accessible across different bandwidths and devices.
Automattic is a Most Loved Company and Disability Confident Committed. (Here’s what that might mean for you.) Learn more about our dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion and our Employee Resource Groups.
