Head of Product Design

🤔 Who are we and why do we do what we do?

We are a data and payments company on a mission! We’re a group of developers, financial experts, and optimists who share a vision for improving the financial wellness of people, their businesses, and their communities.

We started this company with the aim of changing how the industry used and viewed data. As architects of Open Banking, Open Finance, and Open Data, we strive to be a force for good — changing the status quo of how businesses interact with people. We strive to serve the whole population through every change in their finances.

We do this by powering businesses through our APIs and Personal Finance Tech solutions as well as our own personal financial management app for consumers.

We can only do that by being an inclusive and diverse organisation. We invest in our people, and enjoy an environment focused on innovation, collaboration and openness.

💰 What do we offer?

We champion flexibility, and we trust and respect our employees to deliver results in a way that best suits them, working around their own lives and commitments.

We live and breathe a fantastic culture of remote working and you may perform your duties predominantly from your home. However, the heart of Moneyhub is in Bristol and from time to time you will be required to attend company meet ups. Your role may require you to attend client meetings, networking events or group training sessions. You may also be required to work at such other place or places as we may reasonably require from time to time. As a minimum, you will be required to attend a quarterly All Team Away Day at a location of our choice (including overseas).

As well as a truly flexible approach, we also offer a fantastic range of benefits, including:

Remote working - with quarterly away days, regular team meeting and face to face client meetings as required.

10% contribution towards your Pension from your very first day with us;

25 days of holiday (plus bank hols), rising to 30 days after two years;

Choose to take your entitlement to UK bank holidays at other times based on your own days of significance;

Your work on our platform will help consumers get on top of their finances and make better informed financial decisions, as well as enable our Enterprise partners to bring new innovative financial services to market.

You will establish and own the processes and ways of working across research, ideation, conception, design, prototyping and testing across a suite of solutions.

You will be responsible for the prioritisation and progression of our team of UX designers and develop an approach to scaling the capability as the organisation grows.

You will lead and pragmatically champion initiatives such as research, accessibility, usability testing and design systems.

Your focus will range from supporting early stage concepts and demos, through to detailed feature level design work during the product development process.

As Head of Product Design for Personal Finance Technology you will:

  • Lead the Moneyhub design team in team meetings, reviews, personal development, mentoring and coaching
  • Lead Product Design discussions and scoping directly with clients to help them understand the proposed designs, utilising expertise to guide clients towards common goals
  • Work collaboratively with with the product director, senior product owners and senior technical staff to define and execute a UX & product design strategy across a range of products
  • Work closely with Product Consultants and Sales colleagues to visualise the future direction through prototype concepts and demos to showcase the best of Moneyhub
  • Balance and prioritise product design and user experience work amongst the team, whilst keeping a wide range of stakeholders up to speed
  • Often need to be pragmatic about elements of design based on what is required, such as producing a mix of lo-fi and hi-fi design ideas to suit the current stage of client proposal.
  • Design UX best practises and processes, embedding these into the ways of working
  • Agree and establish KPIs to measure the impact of UX and ensure progression against these
  • Create intuitive and elegant UX solutions to user problems

About you:

You are a highly collaborative product designer with experience leading teams to success in complex dynamic environments. You will champion product design and user experience throughout the organisation yet remain adaptable to the business needs.

We’re interested in people who:

  • Care about being close to the product, giving clear direction to designers and non-designers to align the low level product design to the strategic organisational goals
  • Have a natural curiosity in learning the product, industry and psychology of our clients and users and can synthesise this learning into their product design approaches.
  • Are an inspiring leader, with experience managing and organising a team of product/UX designers, raising the bar for design and quality throughout the product and organisation
  • Are experienced at balancing priorities with excellent stakeholder management.
  • Have a background in user centred service design, ideally with a financial services background, especially Open Finance or Open Data.
  • Have experience in leading product design and UX for start-up / scale-up SaaS solutions, and happy to work in a highly dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Can scale our design System to its next level of maturity so that it efficiently continues to support our growing suite of products across a growing number of clients.
  • Are comfortable leading or contributing to client conversations regarding product design for new concepts, or enhancements of existing functionality.
  • Use testing to validate solutions to complex problems, including small scale user research.
  • Can be pragmatic about the level and quality of work output to suit requirements, balancing between unrestricted future gazing to the here-and-now, understanding that sometimes designs don’t have to be perfect and can be iterated as needed.
  • Enjoy researching and learning new tools, patterns and techniques and telling others about them.
  • Communicate with accuracy and effectiveness across a variety of channels.
  • Have experience in building robust and accessible web and mobile interfaces that work for as many users as possible, regardless of their needs.
  • Understand software design principles and collaboration with engineering
