The position reports to the Head of Outbound Logistics.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
- Translate strategy into actionable steps for growth, performance management, and operational planning.
- Cascade the strategy to the team and continuously provide them with direction.
- Collaborate with other leadership team members to develop and implement business strategies.
- Oversee operational departments, including but not limited to Milkrun Operations, Direct Fulfilment Operations, Cross Dock Operations, Takealot Courier Services and Owned Pickup Points.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure operational goals are met as agreed with OTP’s (Objectives, Targets and Plans).
- Develop and manage the departmental budgets, ensuring that all expenses are within budget.
- Analyze financial and operational data to identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including Product, Engineering, Finance, Human Resources, other internal departments, Franchisees and suppliers.
- Ensure effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management, and retention of staff.
- Effective management of national fleet to ensure compliance to Road Traffic Act, and ensure compliance to OEM fleet benchmarks and budget assumptions.
- Ensure the development and adherence to an appropriate vehicle policy in the organization.
- Ensure adequate measures are in place for proper utilization, maintenance, and control of the national fleet to allow effective management of fleet cost pertaining to fuel, maintenance and repairs.
- Ensure that all company policies and procedures are followed.
- Ensure compliance with national and local business regulations, and take appropriate action when necessary.
- Maintain accurate reporting on cost and performance components.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Your requirements will be:
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in Logistics/Operations Management/ Supply Chain Management or Business/Commerce.
- Post graduate qualification in any of the streams listed above.
- Project management.
- Minimum 7 - 10 years in management role in operations.
- Proven track record of success in delivering against profit targets.
- Experience in a Retail Multi-User environment.
- Experience of managing customers at a senior level.
- Exposure to different components (models) of Supply chain.
- Retail experience of at least 3 years in a senior capacity.
- Labour intensive operations and IR management experience.
- Labour Broker and negotiation experience.
- Take accountability for the quality of the technology and processes within the team, and implement changes and best practice as required.
- Sound operational background within a highly unionized environment
- Strong organizational and administrative ability
- Hard working- 24 X 7 operation and willing to work extended hours
- Able to cope in a high-pressured environment
- An expert at doing, who can not only design but also execute
