Head of Financial Accounting and Change (12 month contract)

As Head of Finance, you'll have responsibility for managing all accounting transactions and postings, and ensuring we maintain effective controls and processes adhering to our accounting policies. Technical capability, high standards of delivery and driving efficiencies are imperative for success. This role also supports the delivery of business change projects into the accounting function, working closely with the Tech and Business teams to ensure stakeholder engagement, resource management and input/approval of project designs, plans and implementations impacting Finance.

What you'll be doing: 

Financial Accounting

  • Ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial postings, both from systems reconciliation and judgments perspective – owning all actuals transaction processing
  • Ensuring the implementation of our accounting is in line with accounting policies owned by the Head of Group Reporting
  • Managing Balance Sheet Risks and Opportunities aligned with FP&A process
  • Delivering Best-in-class Balance Sheet controls, completion and review
  • Preparing relevant Accounting papers, directly liasing with the Head of Group Reporting
  • Ensuring the Accounting team review system feed checks accurately and consistently, working with Tech and the business to deliver root cause analysis and correction
  • Owning the Accounting relationship with Commercial Finance and FP&A to ensure appropriate judgments and accounting adjustments are made on a monthly basis
  • Drive continuous improvements in controls and processes

Business Change

  • Responsible for the practical accounting implementation of any new business projects – this ranges from:
    • Understanding any new accounting treatment
    • Ensuring appropriate finance scope & system design
    • Providing clear accounting and reporting requirements
    • Sign off on testing and data validation
    • Ensuring adequate Balance Sheet controls and processes for new areas
    • Reviewing projects post implementation and taking forward learnings
  • Utilise experience and knowledge, to ensure pragmatic and beneficial solutions to project implementation are found to support ASOS’ growth and strategic ambitions
  • Represent Finance at key business change programme/project senior governance meetings, such as Steering Groups, and ensure risks and issues are appropriately raised and remediated with ASOS’ best interests at centre of mind
  • Ownership of internal Finance Change prioritisation process working across Finance and Tech to deliver solutions to improve finance efficiency in day to day tasks

General

  • Responsible for leading and developing a team of 3 managers and a total team of 15
  • Key member of the Finance Leadership Team (FLT)
  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to deliver the Finance vision/strategy and ensure continued engagement, talent planning and succession within the wider team

  • ACA/CIMA/ACCA Qualified – extensive experience post qualification with a technical and process background
  • Self-motivated, proactive and results-focused
  • Flexible, adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity – a can do attitude
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with people at all levels
  • Energy, drive, and resilience, able to work in a fast paced environment and answer quickly to business needs
  • Meticulous attention to detail, superb organization skills, and strong sense of ownership
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations from complex business dynamics
  • Bias for process improvement and process discipline to deliver efficiency and improved performance
  • Ability to deal with highly demanding and complex delivery landscape
  • Experience with technical and commercial accounting considerations alongside ability to recognise where specialist areas will need to be consulted – e.g. taxation, treasury, legal, CoSec and other similar areas
