The Role  

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference on a global scale? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy as Head of Finance in the UKIFS Finance Team. In this role you will play a pivotal role in ensuring effective financial management across the company, working closely with other finance team colleagues, the programme team, our industry Partners and other stakeholders in ensuring we maximise use of project funding, manage finances effectively, establish coherency between programme and financial controls and develop an effective finance business partnering capability within the company.

You will support the Finance Director in the financial transformation to a registered company that leads a complex major programme with large delivery partners from industry. Building a company within fusion is new to the UK, and whilst this is an exciting challenge, you will need to be comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity as we build UKIFS Ltd. and its team. The role will be helping to lead the establishment of a major programme and limited company at its foundation stage. You'll have the opportunity to build a team, set strategies and design and embed new procedures and processes as the company develops.

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the effective delivery of a world-class finance business partnering service to UKIFS as it transforms into a company with a complex operating structure and multiple large delivery partners.
  • Oversee the preparation, monitoring and management of the company’s annual operating budget to ensure that all financial targets are met and resources are prioritised to ensure delivery of UKIFS objectives
  • Provide excellent strategic financial analysis and advice relating to financial performance to the Executive, analysing trends, variances and risks to support management of the in-year financial position
  • Work closely with the programme costing team on setting budgetary controls, and effectively managing and controlling scope and costing changes
  • Develop a strong understanding of the business and ensure effective financial decision-making support UKIFS in delivery of its objectives. 
  • Collaborate closely with key senior UKIFS staff across the Programme, Commercial and Risk and Assurance teams as well as with Whole Plant Partners and UKAEA teams to ensure the effective management of UKIFS finances and advising on complex financial issues.

Essential Requirements: 

  • Qualified accountant, with significant post qualification experience in senior finance roles as a Finance Business Partner or Head of Finance
  • Extensive experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis as applied to major programmes.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to build inspire and motivate finance teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships, work effectively across matrix teams and support senior stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills
  • Effective communications skills with ability to analyse, interpret, and communicate complex data to a wide audience outside of the finance function including programme delivery teams and other key senior stakeholders, and inspire confidence in taking relevant stakeholders methodically through complex financial information
