Epiphany is hiring a

Head of Engineering

Copenhagen, Denmark
Full-Time
Remote
Company Overview

Epiphany is a startup that uses Generative AI and Learning Science to help enterprise companies develop better training programs for their employees.

Corporate learning and development (L&D) is totally broken: less than 12% of employees can apply what they “learned” from training programs in their day-to-day jobs. If you’ve ever seen a corporate training on compliance or something like that, you’re not surprised.

We have developed Epiphany Designer to solve this problem. With Epiphany Designer, corporate L&D teams can design training experiences in 1/10th of the time while getting 10x better results. This is possible through the power of learning science and the scale of generative AI.

One of our Fortune 500 customers said: “You are revolutionising the way L&D happens”.

Where We Are:

This is what we’ve achieved in our first ~12 months:
  • We have built a prototype and tested it in paid pilots with 5 Fortune 500 companies with great results (you can read more in this teaser that went viral on LinkedIn).
  • We have taken all the learnings from the pilots and used them to design and build an MVP - out in October.
  • We have sold our first MVP licenses to three Fortune 500 companies, with more sales incoming.
  • We closed 150k€+ in revenue from the pilots in just a couple of months.
  • We have secured pre-seed funding.
We’re proud of what we achieved so far, and now it’s time to add more technical skills to our team to build on this early success.

The biggest bottleneck we have in securing larger contracts with our existing customers and new ones is not in the product, but in the technical requirements that large companies need to purchase software products (especially if they involve AI). We need someone that can help us build the product needed to support our customers’ demands and scale.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Head of Engineering to join our team. This role is pivotal as we scale our operations and ensure enterprise-level security and reliability for our major clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in back-end development, enterprise security, and will have the freedom to shape our tech stack moving forward. This is a hands-on role that can develop into a managerial role as we grow.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the technical development of our software solutions, primarily focusing on back-end enhancements and enterprise security.
  • Oversee the architecture and implementation of scalable and secure systems to meet the demands of large corporate clients.
  • Collaborate closely with the co-founders to align technical strategy with business goals.
  • Ensure the reliability, performance, and security of our applications.
  • Make critical decisions on technology choices and best practices.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to future technical team members as we grow.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Proven experience in a senior technical leadership role.
  • Proficiency in Python - you’ll be able to pick the tech stack for the web application, but given that the modern LLM stack is Python-based it’s important that it can be integrated with Python for inference.
  • Solid understanding of front-end technologies, particularly React.
  • Extensive experience with enterprise security practices and implementations.
  • Track record of building and scaling secure, reliable software systems.
  • Ability to work independently and make high-level decisions

Preferred Qualifications:
  • You've "been there, done that” in an engineering start-up role.
  • You have experience working with early-stage B2B SAAS startups with an enterprise focus.
  • You have familiarity with Generative AI.

Compensation:
  • EUR 70k - 110k based on experience, plus equity to negotiate.

Who you’ll be working with:

You’d be the first full-time employee of our startup, so you’ll work very closely with the 2 founders. Let us introduce ourselves:

  • I’ve been working in the AI space for 10 years, helping large companies like P&G and Merck turn their business problems into ML prototypes that bring them value. I’m a third-time founder: I launched an IoT startup during Uni (that failed), and AI Academy, that today is a profitable AI education business.
  • I love building AI products but also talking about AI, sometimes in Universities (I teach in some Harvard executive programs), on the TEDx stage, or on social media (Tiktok has been a surprisingly fun channel to grow).
  • I’m also very active in the ethical AI space: my investigation on AI and gender bias was published on The Guardian and sparked conversations all around the globe.
  • When I’m not busy trying to build cool AI stuff, I love practicing photography and playing guitar in my apartment or at some blues club.

  • I’ve been working in the instructional design space for over 20 years as an instructional designer, researcher and thought leader.
  • I am driven by a passion to understand how to create the optimal conditions needed for human knowledge gain and skills development.
  • I’m the host of the world’s most popular AI Learning Design Bootcamp, an affiliated scholar at Cambridge University, former Chief Learning Officer and executive advisor to a number of large institutions (KPMG, House of Commons, University of Oxford, Salesforce). I have a large and dedicated following on LinkedIn and Substack and recently gave a TEDX Talk on AI and education.
  • When I'm not nerding-out on learning science I like to walk in the hills, eat great food and drink great wine, preferably while looking out to sea.

The Epiphany vision:

At Epiphany, we imagine a world where every learning experience is transformative. By empowering instructional designers with powerful tools, we aim to elevate the quality of education globally, fostering a society of lifelong learners equipped to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges.

We’re not just designing courses—we’re reshaping the future of learning and building human potential.
