We’re seeking a dedicated Head of Emergency Department to lead our Emergency Veterinary team. In this key role, you will set high standards of clinical practice, ensure efficient operational management, and provide mentorship to junior staff—all while ensuring top-quality care for our patients.
Who are we:
Perth Veterinary Specialists are one of Western Australia’s most established and largest private specialist veterinary practice with specialists and/or registrars in oncology, medicine, anaesthesia, surgery, dermatology, diagnostic imaging and an after-hours emergency service.
The clinic is equipped with in-house haematology, biochemistry, electrolyte and blood gas analyser, a full diagnostic imaging suite (ultrasound, radiology, CT & MRI), fully equipped surgical suites and an endoscopy/rhinoscopy tower.

The Opportunity:
This is a unique position fulfilling clinical and operational responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership: Lead by example and provide high standards of patient care, mentor junior staff, and oversee training for interns and new vets.

Operational Management: Ensure smooth department operations, manage staffing and resources, and contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols.

Staff Management: Foster a positive and engaging workplace culture, manage rosters and leave requirements, and provide performance feedback to the emergency team.

Liaison & Communication: Build strong relationships with referring clinicians, internal teams, and clients to ensure seamless and high-quality patient care.
About you:
We are looking for an experienced emergency veterinarian, who is enthusiastic and motivated to lead and grow our dedicated team. Lead veterinary experience and further emergency training (membership exams, internship program) is ideal but not required.
As head of department, you will have clinical responsibilities, as well as providing guidance and mentorship to the wider emergency team, while collaborating with the other specialty departments of the hospital.
Overall, we are looking for someone with excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with staff, clients, and referring veterinarians, as well as to lead by example, setting high standards of care and professionalism.
