Founded in 1976, Samtec is a privately held, $1 Billion global manufacturer of a broad line of electronic interconnect solutions, including High-Speed Board-to-Board, High-Speed Cables, Mid-Board and Panel Optics, Precision RF, Flexible Stacking, and Micro/Rugged components and cables. Samtec Technology Centers are dedicated to developing and advancing technologies, strategies and products to optimize both the performance and cost of a system from the bare die to an interface 100 meters away, and all interconnect points in between. With 40+ international locations and products sold in more than 125 different countries, Samtec’s global presence enables its unmatched customer service.
Summary/Objective: The Process Engineer evaluates existing processes and configures manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability, improve Quality, and develop best practices within the production process. The focus of the Process Engineer’s work is on maintaining reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiency, yields, costs, and changeovers.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute experiments to identify key process variables using DOE type methodologies or other analytical methods.
- Develop standard manufacturing best practices, parameters, process windows, and work instructions that improve the Samtec assembly process.
- Use Six Sigma DMAIC process to determine root cause/solutions to process challenges.
- Use statistical methods to conduct process capability studies to determine if the process is meeting key process requirements.
- Develop process criteria to determine if cable assembly design and processes are ready for full volume production.
- Provide general guidance, direction, and support to other engineering and operations teams that improve the assembly process.
- Collect and interpret data from other technical and operating staff involved.
- Direct and track yield investigations from initial discovery to root cause failure analysis.
- Report yield results to cross-functional teams with varying knowledge base.
- Develop tools, methods, and resources to ensure higher yields.
- Perform engineering calculations applying the principles of physics and mathematics for process or equipment, including conceptual, scheme, and detail design.
- Provide technical inputs for incident investigation considering an integral perspective (manpower, method, machines, materials, and measurement), documenting problem, root cause analysis and corrective action.
- Develop/research new manufacturing methods that help advance the assembly process long -term.
