What is the role about?
As a Hardware Engineer at Leaseweb you spend most of your time defining and improving standards regarding our dedicated server line-up. Continuously throughout the year new hardware is selected and needs to be tested for compatibility in Leaseweb data centers, racks and automation. You will be part of the product team and work together with local datacenter operations teams to ensure that we can quickly add new hardware to our server line-up and that our rack standards are followed globally.
Key responsibilities:
- Analyze and track hardware and rack technology developments and consider technical applications for Leaseweb.
- E.g. how can we utilize software to set the TDP, clock and ghz dynamically.
- E.g. what are the technical applications of disk developments with flexible DWPD parameters, and how can we manage the software settings for this.
- Analyze and interpret the hardware specifications of server hardware under consideration for introduction by Product Management.
- Set the technical standards for Leaseweb racks optimizing between cost and functionality.
- Manage the process for hardware testing.
- Be the bridge between the provisioning engineering team and the bare metal automation team: where hardware meets software.
- Develop test setups and test protocols to analyze hardware capabilities as well as performance metrics of server hardware and recommend setups for Leaseweb.
- Build up essential knowledge of hardware performance in practice, by analyzing actual usage results, for example
- Actual lifetime of memory and disks,
- Real life performance differences between DDR5 and DDR4k.
- Power usage of racks and ability to optimize density.
- Evaluate different GPU cards and vendors
- Liquid cooling
What we are looking for:
- A strong interest in computer/server hardware and developments.
- Strong communication skills so you can independently align with datacenter engineers around the world.
- You are organized and structured so the outcome of your tests and the standards you define are understood by others.
- Competent with hardware and software installation, and the ability to execute performance measurement and test scripts.
- Knowledge of ISP related technologies such as servers’ hardware and cloud technologies.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills
- Experience in setting up test environments and/or test labs is a plus.
- A background in engineering.
Benefits include:
- Participation in annual company bonus scheme and company pension
- Internet allowance and travel allowance
