We have an opening for a Supply & Distribution, Institutional Support & Supply Services (SDD) Group Leader. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and management oversight for key institutional support functions, including Fleet Management, Industrial Gases, and Furniture Services within SDD. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the efficient, effective, and compliant delivery of supply services that are vital to the successful execution of the Laboratory's mission. You will engage with a diverse range of personnel and interact with various levels of management and staff, support organizations, and the DOE/NNSA. This position reports directly to the SDD Division Leader within the Asset Management Department.

This position requires on-site presence on a regular basis.

You will 

  • Manage a diverse team of technical and administrative employees in multiple service areas within SDD, including fleet management, industrial gases, and furniture services. Oversee personnel management, mentoring, training, and career growth of team members. Monitors workflow to achieve established goals and objectives, and ensure projects are completed on schedule.
  • Serve as key member of the division, focusing on interfacing with and fostering partnerships with program customers, NNSA Livermore Field Office, Risk Management, Project Management Office (PMO), and a wide variety of Environment, Safety, and Health (ESH) professionals. Identify and pursue continuous improvement opportunities to advance customer service and automate solutions.
  • Develop and refine business strategies to improve performance while ensuring procedural compliance with DOE, state, federal, and LLNL policies and procedures.  Analyze technical data to optimize operations and ensure successful execution of complex initiatives, including the implementation of the zero-emissions vehicle model at LLNL aligning with the California Air Resource Board (CARB) Advanced Clean Fleet Regulation (ACF) and the Executive Order (EO) on Catalyzing Clean Energy Industries and Jobs Through Federal Sustainability (EO 14057).
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders to promote collaboration and shared objectives. Establish constructive multi-disciplinary partnerships with senior leaders and key stakeholders, and engage in benchmarking activities with other DOE sites to exchange insights and implement best practices for continuous improvement.
  • Address complex logistics challenges related to furniture services and the critical supply of industrial gases by working on intricate issues and collaborating with customers, subcontractors, supply chain management (SCM), and senior management. Develop and implement strategic goals and objectives to support institutional needs in industrial gases, fleet management, and furniture services.
  • Act as an advisor to the Operations and Business (O&B) senior leadership team on all matters relating to fleet management, industrial gases, and furniture services, exerting influence in the development of organizational goals.
  • Manage the technical direction of institutionally significant supply and service contract agreements in SDD, ensuring they align with organizational goals, institutional needs, and deliver value to the Laboratory.
  • Direct and prioritize initiatives within fleet operations, industrial gases, and furniture services, aligning organizational goals to ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability goals, regulatory & technical requirements, and executive orders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering, or related field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Expert communication, facilitation, negotiation, and collaboration skills, necessary to present, explain, mediate, negotiate, and advise a diverse group of personalities and disciplines, with management at all levels and in presentations to large and diverse audiences at both the management and technical level, and an ability to promote and maintain productive relationships across directorates, with other laboratories, and with personnel from external entities.
  • Extensive record of team building, conflict resolution and influencing multiple stakeholders, including senior management, and developing strategies and properly prioritizing special assignments.
  • Significant experience with developing strategic plans and performance metrics tracking against state and federal directives that are complex and not well defined.
  • Experience in project or program management including scheduling, cost estimating, risk analysis, or reporting.
  • Effective leadership, interpersonal skills, organizational, and supervisory skills to lead personnel, write performance appraisals, and actively participate in ranking and hiring activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment with advanced analytical, technical, and organizational decision making and problem-solving skills to safely and compliantly accomplish objectives.
  • Substantial experience organizing and effectively coordinating multiple and frequently conflicting, concurrent tasks with attention to detail, accuracy, and follow through.

Depending on your job duties, you may be required to work in a Limited Area where you are not permitted to have a personal and/or laboratory mobile device in your possession.  This includes, but not limited to cell phones, tablets, fitness devices, wireless headphones, and other Bluetooth/wireless enabled devices.  

If you use a medical device, which pairs with a mobile device, you must still follow the rules concerning the mobile device in individual sections within Limited Areas.  Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
