Government Relations and External Affairs Director

  • Execute the mission of Cavista with focus on Botswana, build strong stakeholder relationships with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.
  • Monitor and analyze relevant policy and regulatory developments that may impact the company's operations or market position.
  • Inform Cavista business leaders of policy and regulatory trends and developments, and coordinate with them on the development and execution of the company’s agenda to protect and secure business growth.
  • Lead advocacy efforts in Botswana on issues of importance to ensure effective strategy toward shared goals.
  • Represent the company at meetings, conferences, and events with external stakeholders to advance our interests and promote our brand.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across the business to develop and execute strategies and provide local market intelligence.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in government affairs and external relations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of proven experience in government affairs, external relations, or public affairs.
  • Strong understanding of government structures, policy development processes, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to navigate complex political landscapes and build relationships at all levels of government and industry associations.
  • Demonstrated ability to strategize, plan, and execute initiatives to achieve specific advocacy objectives.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess the impact of policies on the company's operations and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Highly adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle challenges with a solutions-oriented approach.
  • A strong network of contacts in the government and political space.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
