E-SPACE is hiring a

GNC Robotics Engineer

Saratoga, United States
Full-Time
Ready to make connectivity from space universally accessible, secure and actionable? Then you’ve come to the right place!

E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of space-powered Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are fundamentally changing the design, economics, manufacturing, coverage limitations and service delivery associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems.

By building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system—with a unique antenna design, highly sustainable spacecraft system and low-cost, small portable end-user devices—we can extend global satellite coverage, capacity and connectivity beyond legacy space services to provide a new kind of IoT platform that lets users sense, track, connect and act on information gathered, anywhere.

We’re intentional, we’re unapologetically curious and we’re 100% committed to saving space, protecting our planet and turning connectivity into actionable intelligence.

What is the role:

  • As a GNC Robotics engineer, you will focus on the integration of sensors and actuators into the physical satellite platform and mission-critical flight software.
  • This is a hands-on position, and you will engage with ESpace GNC, hardware, avionics and software engineers to procure, design, validate, test and operate GNC hardware that meets required behavior and performance on board our satellites.
  • This position will report to the GNC Lead and is based in Saratoga, CA

What you will do:

  • Develop and maintain testbeds for characterizing performance of various sensors and fusion algorithms
  • Perform qualification and acceptance test planning and execution
  • Interface with flight software and avionics teams to build test jigs for qualifying GNC components on the flight computer board, including working with sensor/actuator drivers, firmware and communication protocols
  • Develop sensor models and fusion algorithms; test them on the hardware
  • Design and implement software tools for ground and in-orbit calibration
  • Conduct processing, visualization and evaluation of orbit data to assess sensor and actuator behavior and performance
  • Maintain cross-functional interaction with other sub-system engineers, providing expertise as needed
  • Participate, present and prepare documentation for engineering reviews

What you will bring:

  • BS +3 years / MS +1 year in Electronics, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent field of study
  • Experience in building hardware using Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Pixhawk or micro-controllers
  • Experience with sensors (IMUs, magnetometers, GPS/GNSS receivers, Earth sensors, Sun sensors, star trackers, etc.)
  • Knowledge of UART, SPI, I2C and CAN communication protocols
  • Proficient in Matlab, Python, C/C++
  • Familiarity with CAD and 3d printing
  • Highly proactive team player with excellent technical communication and presentation skills

Bonus Points:

  • PhD in mechatronics/robotics engineering
  • Experience building space/aerial/ground robots
  • Experience with spacecraft GNC hardware/software, including design and testing processes
  • Experience implementing Kalman filters and sensor fault detection
  • Familiarity with PCB schematics for aerospace or robotics applications
  • Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence

We are redefining how satellites are designed, manufactured and used—so we’re looking for candidates with passion, deep knowledge and direct experience on LEO satellite component development, design and inorbit activities. If that’s your experience – then we’ll be immediately wow-ed.

Why E-Space is right for you:
