Global Teen Policy Manager

We seek an experienced and empathetic leader who will help drive our mission of keeping Discord users safe and thrive by leading our teen engagement efforts through strategy development, policy advising, and thought leadership. This hire will report to our Senior Director of Policy

What you’ll be doing

  • Proactively develop vision and leadership for Discord's teen safety and thriving strategy based on current business needs, industry conditions, and external issue landscape.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-company teen safety activities and teams.
  • Identify and research emerging teen safety issues and mitigation strategies from government, civil society, academia, and other community groups.
  • Articulate high-level insights and recommendations to key internal stakeholders based on the overall teen safety strategy.
  • Represent Discord and maintain relationships with our external teen safety partners in civil society, government, the industry, and the media. Representation can be virtual or require travel.
  • Support regional public policy teams by visiting, advising, and representing our global teen safety approach with local government and partners.
  • Consult on consumer-facing content and guides for teens, guardians, and other trusted adults.

Potential exposure to sensitive or graphic content, including but not limited to vulgar language, violent threats, pornography and other graphic images. 

What you should have

  • 6+ years experience working on child, teen, and family digital safety issues at a non-profit, government agency, or tech company.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education / experience
  • Passion for child safety and inclusive online spaces.
  • Experience researching child safety issues online and writing policies and recommendations to safeguard their experience.
  • Experience engaging with teenagers, parents, and teachers around online safety and digital literacy through education, live events, and other methods.
  • Experience working with child safety organizations, governmental agencies, and policy makers to build safer experiences for children online.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Attitude of open-mindedness, collaboration, flexibility, and always questioning your assumptions.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $167,000 to $184,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
