Geoscience Innovation Co-op

The Geoscience Innovation Co-op will be part of the Orebody Knowledge (OBK) team, which is a team of geoscience technical experts who support all of Teck Metal’s Mining Operations and Advanced Projects. This role will specifically report to the Senior Geologist, Innovation, who supports the technology and innovation portfolio of the OBK team – helping research, review and trial off-the-shelf solutions to determine suitability and potential benefit for the Mining Operations. The Geoscience Innovation Co-op role will be based in Vancouver, with the option to work remotely up to two days per week. Depending on the needs and location of the team, you will need to work PDT or MDT or relocate to a specific office (site-based). You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures  
  • Complete research and develop business cases for available off-the-shelf industry software/hardware products relating to mining operations, mine planning and geoscience improvement  
  • Apply mining engineering and/or geoscience knowledge to conduct exploratory data analysis on geoscience results and mining productivity data for assessments such as testing technology performance  
  • Learn about project management workflows being used on the technology testing initiatives and support OBK team to generate project results  
  • Support OBK team in implementing a historical technology and innovation project repository  
  • Engage with Geological, Exploration and Engineering departments  

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Geological Sciences or Mining Engineering is required  
  • Familiarity with data analysis and database management is preferable  
  • Suitable writing skills to generate descriptive reports and presentations  
  • Willing to learn and be proactive with given responsibilities and tasks. Be able to tackle multiple projects and balance requirements and results  
  • Able to work effectively independently as well as part of the team  
  • Proven ability to learn new technologies and platforms quickly, accurately, and efficiently  
  • Able to articulate complex and technical concepts clearly and in a way a diverse audience would understand, with strong public speaking skills and ability to effectively communicate in a technical environment  
  • Able to build and nurture positive working relationships with individuals of a diverse set of backgrounds 

Wage Range: $4000 - $5200 / Month
Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.
