We are seeking an exceptional leader to take on the role of General Manager of Clinical Excellence, overseeing a diverse and high-performing team of Veterinary Managers across Australia and New Zealand. This senior-level position requires a strategic visionary who can blend clinical expertise with commercial acumen to elevate our veterinary clinics to new heights of excellence and growth so we can best support and care for our clients and their pets to have happy healthy lives together.
As the General Manager of Clinical Excellence, you will be at the forefront of driving clinical excellence, ensuring that our practices deliver the highest standards of veterinary care. You will lead the development and implementation of clinical protocols, spearhead continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure adherence to industry standards. Your role will be pivotal in mentoring and developing our Clinical Leaders and the next generation of veterinary surgeons, advocating for best practices, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
Your influence will extend beyond clinical operations, as you work to drive commercial success across our network of clinics. You will be responsible for optimising operational efficiency, enhancing patient outcomes, and ensuring that our clinics not only meet but exceed their goals. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Management:
- Lead and motivate a regionally based team of Veterinary Managers, ensuring both clinical and operational excellence across all clinics, for the benefit of customers and patients alike.
- Develop and execute strategic plans that align with organisational goals, promoting a high-performance culture.
Clinical recruitment & Retention
- In conjunction with the Careers team and Veterinary Managers, prioritise the recruitment of high performing individuals, ensuring that talent is matched to the right role to meet the expectations of our hospitals and the individual
- Support veterinary lead career development plans that enhance patient outcomes, increase caseloads, and introduce new services. Identify where caseload and mentoring opportunities for clinical growth exist and develop pathways to improve access to clinical support.
Clinical Standards & Compliance:
- Oversee the development and implementation of clinical protocols, ensuring adherence to the latest industry standards.
- Regularly audit and review clinical practices to maintain high compliance and uniformity across all locations.
Mentorship & Advocacy:
- Mentor Clinical Leaders and Veterinary Managers, fostering professional growth and clinical excellence.
- Advocate for best practices and continuous learning, representing the organisation in industry forums.
Commercial Success:
- Drive financial performance by achieving EBITDA and revenue targets via the good practice and maintenance of clinical care standards.
- Collaborate with finance and operations teams to develop budgets and strategies that support clinic profitability and sustainability.
Quality Assurance & Improvement:
- Implement a robust quality assurance program to monitor and enhance clinical performance.
- Lead initiatives to improve clinical outcomes and patient safety, using data-driven decision-making.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to advance clinical and business objectives.
- Represent the organisation at industry events and universities, building strong relationships and promoting excellence in veterinary education and patient care as well as nurse and clinic team effectiveness.
Operational Efficiency:
- Optimise clinic operations to ensure efficient use of resources and high-quality service delivery.
- Lead projects that streamline processes, improve patient care, and enhance overall clinic efficiency.
Skills, Attributes, and Experience:
- Veterinary degree (DVM or equivalent) and current registration with the Australian Veterinary Board.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in veterinary practice, with 5+ years in a proven leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary clinical standards, protocols, and regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven track record in quality assurance, risk management, and operational improvement.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with industry advancements.
- Track record of implementing clinical operational solutions at scale.
- Strong understanding of veterinary practice economics.
