Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Transaction Risk organization optimizes each of the billions of dollars of transactions processed by Stripe annually on behalf of our users, maximizing successful transactions while minimizing payment costs and fraud. We own products like Radar end-to-end, building fast and scalable services and creating intuitive user experiences. We serve real-time predictions as part of Stripe’s payment infrastructure and architect controls that leverage ML to optimally manage users’ business.

What you’ll do

As a Full Stack engineer, you will design and build intuitive features that enable Radar users to meet their goals. You’ll think deeply about the fraud attacks these merchants face and build creative, powerful features to mitigate and prevent them. You will partner with many functions at Stripe, with the opportunity to both work on infrastructure/platform systems, as well as produce direct user-facing business impact.

Responsibilities

  • Build and launch new capabilities and products that bring significant value to customers
  • Work with a wide range of systems, processes and technologies to own and solve technical and product problems
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable and performant services and systems
  • Help debug and solve critical production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
  • Uphold our high engineering standards, and elevate quality and engineering efficiency within our many codebases and processes
  • Mentor engineers earlier in their technical careers to help them grow.
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the company to build new features at large-scale, while improving internal engineering standards, tooling, and processes.

Who you are

We’re looking for people with a strong background and passion in building successful fullstack products, services, and APIs that deliver impactful product value to our customers. You are comfortable in dealing with changes. You love to take initiatives, and bias towards action.

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • A strong technical background, including 2+ years of software engineering or a similar experience.
  • Familiarity with the full life cycle of software development, from design and implementation to testing and deployment.
  • Strong coding skills for building high performance services.
  • Strong analytical capability especially in modeling complex business flows and turning the business requirements into programmatic artifacts such as data models, algorithms, and API designs.
  • Empathy with users and a strong customer focus
  • Enjoy working with a diverse group of people with different areas of expertise. Engineering works closely with a variety of teams: Sales and Support to better understand our customers’ needs, Product and Design to ideate product features and combine user needs with technical feasibility, etc.

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior knowledge in financial technology space, particularly in payment processing
  • Prior experience in payments fraud
  • Proficient in Ruby, Scala, and Java; language can be learned and we care much more about your general engineering skill than knowledge of a particular language or framework
