The Opportunity:
As our Frontend Engineer, you’ll work closely with our Product Manager and InStore Leader to enable retailers to use commercetools’ solutions in their physical stores. You’ll work closely with enthusiastic and experienced retail specialists in an agile and international environment with a modern, evolving tech-stack. If you work with passion, love clean code, and like to understand the big picture, this role is a great match!
Your Mission:
- Optimise retail in-store business flows using a broad spectrum of device hardware and standards across receipt printers, cash drawers, payment devices, scanners, cash safes, and fixed or mobile, shared or dedicated workstations running various operating systems
- Monitor emerging technologies and standards to enable cutting edge in-store solutions
- Implement and test in-store device interactions; recommend or develop device testing protocols
- Work closely with Product Management to understand business needs and find appropriate technical solutions
- Contribute to the definition of the team roadmap
- Ensure that functional and non-functional requirements (performance, security) are met
- Work with engineers from different teams to ensure technical excellence of the whole platform
- Take part in on-call rotation (with the worldwide distributed team) for production systems
What you need to succeed:
- 3+ years of experience as a Frontend Engineer developing server-side systems
- Experience in developing REST API’s and knowledge of scalable architectures
- Typescript or Javascript experience
- Knowledge of document databases (MongoDB) and API interaction tools (such as Postman, or similar)
- Fluent written and verbal English language skills for work in international teams
- The aspiration to constantly improve yourself and learn new technologies and concepts
- A good understanding of Agile methodologies and participation in sprint rituals
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment - remotely for development but commuting to a London lab for physical device work
Nice to have:
- Engineering experience supporting software integrated with peripheral devices
- Experience with MACH principles and solutions composed in MACH environments
- Experience with web serial API, web USB API, or web Bluetooth API
- Experience integrating, implementing, and supporting at least one major receipt printing standard or SDK, such as Epson SDK, Star Micronics, Fujitsu, or IBM
