As a Front-end Software Engineer in GfK's flagship product, you will be provided with a great opportunity to work as part of an agile feature team of technologist within the GfK product ecosystem. Specifically, you will work in a squad (mixing other developers, SREs, UI/UX designers, Product Owners, and Product Managers) dedicated to a project for the GfK Client Platform located in India, UK and Malaysia. For this opening you will be part of the Retail team that is responsible for building the Retail dashboard for our clients.

Your Job Details

You are passionate about building beautiful, functional and performant web applications that delight users. You understand how front ends get delivered to user's browsers and how they execute their code there. You know how to engineer code so that it runs fast and secure for first-time visitors and users who have been using the frontend for hours or days. You are obsessed with separating content from presentation through the adoption and effective use of CSS frameworks. You build to open standards but cognizant of implemented browser behaviour. You build JavaScript front end code with software engineering best practices and have effectively scaled these practices to the size of an engineering team. You follow the technology trends within front end software development, know of the framework of the month and the new shiny tool delivering salvation but have learned to write code that stands the test of time. You have used various frontend code and asset transpilers, compilers and packagers, you know and have used in the past some of these tools and languages: ES6, TypeScript, SASS, LESS.

You would initially help us in our migration phase and build new features for our Retail dashboard to MFE.

You will report to the Principal Software Engineer and work with our Product counterparts.

You Will:

  • Develop Micro frontends (MFEs) and single-page applications (SPAs) using React and TypeScript.
  • Participate in frontend architectural design sessions and community of practice.
  • Implement Test-Driven Development (TDD) for writing unit and integration tests.
  • Address application and data integrity issues, and fix defects and performance problems identified in testing.
  • Write various tests, including unit, integration, and acceptance tests using tools like React Testing Library (RTL) and Cypress.
  • Package applications using NPM, YARN, and webpack.
  • Propose projects that enhance working efficiency and quality.
  • Work with architects and Agile teams to shape system architecture and performance goals.
  • Translate UX designs into high-quality JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Integrate and consume RESTful APIs.
  • Engage in Agile practices, such as estimating and planning.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Document technical efforts periodically.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience in building SPAs with a focus on React and TypeScript.
  • Proficient in Microservices architecture and RESTful API development.
  • Proficient in Node.js.
  • Solid understanding of TDD and experience with unit testing frameworks.
  • 3+ years of experience with React Testing Library (RTL) and Cypress for testing.
  • Familiarity with Source-Control systems, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with CSS preprocessors like Sass or Less.
  • Knowledge of creating and managing API documentation (e.g., Swagger).
  • Understanding of design patterns and web user tracking analytics.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (preferably GCP) and deploying projects via CI/CD.
  • Interest in mentoring and improving the skills of fellow engineers.
  • Open and collaborative mindset in team environments.
  • Agile development experience (e.g., SAFe).

It would be nice you have:

  • Experience with enterprise web applications.
  • Experience in frontend architectural patterns.
  • Experience building APIs in Java Spring Boot.
  • Knowledge of No-SQL databases.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools like Prometheus, Grafana.
  • Understanding of Unix systems.
  • Experience in large-scale microservices environments.
