FPGA Design Intern

Figure is an AI Robotics company developing a general purpose humanoid. Our humanoid robot, Figure 02, is designed for commercial tasks and the home. We are based in San Jose, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration. It’s time to build.

We are looking for an FPGA Design Intern to assist in developing high-performance FPGA solutions for camera imaging and motor control applications. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in robotics and gain valuable experience in FPGA-based embedded systems.

Tentative internship date is mid May - Aug 2025 (minimum 10 weeks), but ideally as soon as possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design, simulation, and implementation of FPGA modules for camera imaging processing and motor control.
  • Work with the team to develop and optimize data processing modules tailored for real-time control systems.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to support the integration of FPGA modules with sensor interfaces.
  • Help develop testbenches and run simulations to verify design functionality and performance.
  • Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions to discuss project progress and challenges.
  • Document design changes, test results, and insights to contribute to comprehensive project records.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 weeks internship, 1 to 2 terms preferred
  • Experience with FPGA design tools (e.g., Vivado, Quartus) and HDL (VHDL, Verilog)
  • Solid understanding of motor control and camera imaging systems
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, with experience using lab instruments (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in FPGA-based vision or motor control systems
  • Familiar with motor control algorithms and their implementation in HDL
  • Experience with real-time embedded systems or robotics
