About the Country Program in Zambia

 

Action Against Hunger has been operational in Zambia since 2021 implementing both development and humanitarian programmes through a multi-sectoral strategy where Nutrition, Health, Food Security and Livelihoods, WASH and Protection, Gender and psychosocial support are integrated to have a meaningful impact on people’s resilience.

 

Summary of position

As a member of the Action Against Hunger Lusaka, Zambia Team, the Food Security & Livelihoods Coordinator will provide technical and oversight support to the Food Security, Livelihoods, Resilience, Disaster Risk Management interventions, and be part of the broader Food Security & Livelihoods initiatives at the Country, regional and network levels.

 Purpose:

The Food Security & Livelihoods Coordinator provides technical leadership and operational support to the food security and livelihoods portfolio in the Zambia for improved nutrition security.

Key Activities to be performed.

· Engage with technical and operations teams, country program teams, and counterparts in the Action Against Hunger network to for improved nutrition security.

· Represent Action Against Hunger lusaka, Zambia in relevant internal and regional external fora and working groups.

· Regularly contribute to External Relations (ER)/ communication efforts, press releases and other documentation at regional level

· Facilitate FSL information, experiences and case studies to ER/communications for public communications, website materials at regional level.

·  Advance Action Against Hunger Lusaka, Zambia FSL advocacy strategy and messages at regional level and country level

 · Provision of technical support to food security and livelihoods Interventions – strategy, conceptualization, planning, implementation and reporting.

· Promote and ensure compliance to Action Against Hunger technical guidelines, policies, manuals, position papers and procedures related to Food Security and Livelihoods.

· Promote and ensure compliance of country programs to Action Against Hunger mainstreamed approaches around Social Behavior Change, Disaster Risk Management, Gender and Protection in Food security and Livelihood interventions.

· Ensure secondary analysis of existing or proposed programs to ensure relevance, impact, viability, sustainability and quality of the action.

· Ensure documentation, capitalization and dissemination of program experiences, statistics and lessons learned.

·  Facilitate the identification of innovation and research opportunities together with the country program team and research team.

· Inform Action Against Hunger lusaka, Zambia’s Regional Strategy and departmental objectives

·  Identifying and engaging in coordination with AAH-US senior FSL advisors with other agencies &/or partners in FSL in East Africa to ensure up-to-date programming, tools, technical developments and innovations

· Lead the design and development of multi-countries / regional FSL opportunities with inputs from the country teams.

· Identify funding opportunities for programming at regional level which contribute to Action Against Hunger-lusaka, Zambia’s overall strategy and development

· Advise in the recruitment of FSL technical field practitioners by providing a technical assessment of each candidate's skills & experience

· Advise and inform the development of FSL related JDs for mission technical positions.

· Facilitate briefing/debriefing of FSL technical staff for Action Against Hunger Lusaka, Zambia’s country programs.

Identify the on-going learning and development needs of FSL technical country coordinators, and assist in providing or supporting their professional development.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in food security, Agricultural Education and Extension, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Food Policy and Applied food science, socio politics, or related topics
  • At least ten years’ experience in food systems, nutrition sensitive agriculture, Livelihoods and Resilience.
  • Membership with a relevant professional body

 Required Skills & Experience

· Experience working in humanitarian and development contexts, recovery and rehabilitation as well as with national governments, regional bodies, UN agencies and INGOs.

· Excellent knowledge of technical fields related to Food Security & Livelihoods that includes excellent working knowledge of food security, Market systems and nutrition sensitive resilience.

· Sound analytical and technical competence in the subject matter of food security and livelihoods

·  Field experience in FSL programming, including agro ecology, value chain analysis, income generation, emergency food assistance, COD, HEA, etc.

· Strong analytical and writing skills essential.

· Knowledge and experience in assessment and research methods.

· Strong organizational skills and technical review/writing of detailed technical documents.

· Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work both independently and as a member of a team

· Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

· Capacity to represent the organization in various fora.

· Genuine interest in and commitment to the humanitarian principles of Action Against Hunger
