Job Summary:
The Fleet Services Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the operations of a company's vehicle fleet. This includes ensuring proper maintenance, repair, and replacement of vehicles, implementing cost-saving measures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and managing the team responsible for fleet operations. The Fleet Services Manager will work closely with other departments to ensure fleet operations align with the organization's goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day operations of the company’s fleet, including scheduling maintenance, repairs, and ensuring the timely availability of vehicles. The fleet of approximately 80 pieces of equipment includes tractors, vacuum trucks, refrigerated trailers, tanker trailers, pickup trucks, company cars and heavy equipment.
Vehicle Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend the life of vehicles. Coordinate regular inspections, servicing, and repairs.
Compliance: Ensure that all fleet operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including safety standards, emissions regulations, and IFTA filings.
Cost Control: Monitor and manage fleet expenses, including fuel costs, maintenance costs, and vehicle replacement. Implement cost-saving measures and negotiate vendor contracts.
Vehicle Acquisition and Disposal: Provide recommendations to the Transportation Director and General Manager on the acquisition of new vehicles and the disposal of old or underperforming vehicles. Conduct fleet evaluations to recommend the right types of vehicles for various business needs.
Team Leadership: Manage and support fleet service staff, including mechanics, drivers, and support personnel. Provide training, set performance goals, and monitor staff progress.
Safety Management: Develop and implement safety programs for fleet operations, ensuring that all mechanics and fleet personnel adhere to company safety policies and procedures.
Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on fleet performance, costs, and trends to senior management. Use data analysis to make recommendations for improvements.
Vendor Relations: Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers for maintenance, parts supply, and other fleet-related needs.
Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in fleet management, logistics, or related roles.
Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair.
Familiarity with fleet management software and tools.
Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Ability to manage budgets and understand cost management principles.
Strong understanding of safety and regulatory compliance related to fleet operations.
Valid driver’s license; commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred but not required.
