ROLE OVERVIEW The Financial Systems Specialist at Lindblad Expeditions will play a key role in maintaining and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our financial systems and integrations, ensuring that they align with and support overarching business strategies and objectives. NOT a financial modeler, the ideal candidate must possess a unique blend of technical expertise and business acumen as it relates to identifying and translating business requirements into system functionalities, troubleshooting system issues, developing comprehensive business rules, and conducting rigorous QA testing for financial systems. Additionally, they will have experience providing in-depth training to accounting users on the Seaware Reservation system as well as other critical accounting applications. While reporting to the Accounting Department, this technical position requires close collaboration with the IT Department to guarantee that systems not only meet but exceed company requirements and are at the forefront of financial technology advancements. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Seaware, Great Plains and Financial Applications Management: This role will oversee all functions within the Seaware reservations system, Great Plains accounting software, and other relevant financial applications. The Financial Systems Specialist will ensure the successful deployment of enhancements, new functionalities, and bug fixes through meticulous planning, execution, and post-implementation support.
  • Financial System Issue Resolution: The specialist will be responsible for the analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of financial system issues. This includes identifying the root cause of problems, proposing effective solutions, and implementing corrective actions in a timely manner to minimize disruptions to business operations.
  • System Upgrades, Testing and Troubleshooting: The Financial Systems Specialist will perform system upgrades, conduct comprehensive testing, and troubleshoot any arising issues to guarantee the functionality, reliability, and security of financial systems. This involves staying abreast of the latest software releases, patches, and updates and proactively addressing potential vulnerabilities.
  • System Integration and Implementation Collaboration: The specialist will actively collaborate with cross-functional teams on system integration and implementation projects. This includes providing technical expertise, ensuring seamless data flow between systems, and adhering to established project timelines and deliverables.
  • Financial System Training Program Development and Implementation: This role involves developing and implementing comprehensive training programs to educate staff on financial systems and processes. The specialist will create training materials, conduct training sessions, and assess user proficiency to ensure that employees can effectively utilize financial systems to perform their duties.
  • Documentation of Financial Systems Processes and Procedures: The Financial Systems Specialist will create and maintain detailed documentation for financial systems processes and procedures. This documentation will serve as a valuable resource for employees, providing them with clear guidelines and instructions on how to navigate financial systems and complete various tasks.
  • Partnership with IT to Address System Requirements and Challenges: The specialist will work closely with the IT Department to identify, prioritize, and address system requirements and challenges. This includes translating business needs into technical specifications, collaborating on solution design, and ensuring that IT solutions align with financial objectives.
  • Definition and Implementation of Business Rules and Configurations in Financial Systems: This role involves defining and implementing business rules and configurations within financial systems to support accounting operations and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. The specialist will translate accounting requirements into system logic and configure financial systems accordingly.
  • Identification of Opportunities for System Improvements and New Solutions: The Financial Systems Specialist will proactively identify opportunities for system improvements or new solutions to enhance financial operations, streamline processes, and drive efficiencies. This includes staying informed about emerging technologies and industry best practices and evaluating their potential applicability to the company's financial systems landscape.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • 3+ years of work experience as a Financial Systems Analyst or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of financial and accounting principles
  • Experience with financial software and databases
  • A full understanding of the business rules and configuration for the system
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate complex data in understandable ways
  • Proficiency and experience troubleshooting and maintaining financial systems
  • Must be able to work onsite in our NYC (West Village) offices Tue/Wed/Thu each week
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with the Seaware Accounting module strongly preferred
  • Experience with Great Plains

    Using the English language, this person must have the ability to read, write, and comprehend policies, legal guidelines, correspondence, and memos.   Must also possess the ability to effectively communicate--both in writing and orally--with a professional demeanor. 
     
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS 
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear.  The employee will also be required to write and type.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.  

    COMPENSATION STATEMENT
    Lindblad Expeditions determines the pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data. We evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted salary range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living.

    For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s location, level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.
